[Illinois - Chicago or Suburbs] Classic World of Darkness

So, I’ve been watched “Being Human” (US Version). Don’t judge me! If you haven’t seen it, it’s a decent (but not great) TV show about a Werewolf, a Vampire, and a Ghost sharing a house in Boston. No, really. Yeah, I’d have liked to be there for that script pitch as well. But hey, they’ve made 4 seasons in the US and 5 in the UK, so I guess it’s working for them.

Anyway….. So it’s got me hankering to play some World of Darkness. Haven’t played in many, many years. But I’ve got some campaign ideas for a multi-genre crossover game, big epic campaign kind of thing. However, while I have nothing but time at the moment, before I invest energy in fleshing out a campaign I figured I’d see if anyone is actually interested in getting a campaign up and running.

My preference would be the suburbs, specifically my house in Naperville, but I'm open to other alternatives. There are a couple of good commercial spots in Downtown Downers Grove that we could game at (right off the BNSF Metra), or I'd be up for a Chicago location if it's reasonably accessible by public transit from the burbs (or ride arrangements could be made from the station).

Right now my schedule is wide open, but come spring probably weekends and evenings would be best (I'm a civil engineer laid off for the winter).

If anyone is interested, shoot me a note, and let's talk.

- Brett

PS: If you don't have Classic WOD books, they're reasonably inexpensive through DriveThruRPG.com.

Some more flesh out on the campaign idea:

The World of Darkness is in flames.

For centuries, perhaps longer, the various species of supernatural creature have existed in a state of non-interference with the others. The vampires had their blood politics, the werewolves had their battle with the Wyrm, and the magi their ascension war. Even the new comers to the supernatural scene, such as demons and mummies had their own affairs to tend to, with little concern for the others.

Something has changed. Werewolves openly hunt vampires. Magi battle demons. Fairies tangle with wraiths. These battles threaten the secrecy upon which all factions depend for their survival. Worse, the situation is escalating, threatening to evolve into all-out war. Open warfare among the denizens of the supernatural would devastate the world, and possibly lead to the destruction of all. For all their powers, the supernatural is still vastly outnumbered by the mundane. If revealed to the mundane world, the ensuing pogroms would make the Spanish Inquisition look like a common traffic stop.

Why the change? Is something or someone behind it? If so, for what reason? Can it be stopped?

Players will take on the role of a supernatural entity in White Wolf’s World of Darkness (Classic), choosing to be a Vampire, Werewolf, Mage, Changeling (Fairy), Demon, Promethean (Frankenstein), Hunter, Wraith, Mummy, or Immortal (Highlander). While trying to stay out of the greater conflicts, they will have to work together to find the answer to the crisis.

In terms of mechanics, the characters will be more powerful than starting characters. Let's face it, in the scenario above starting characters are either hiding or being used as shock troops. Exactly how powerful we'll decide as a group, but I'm thinking around 48 extra freebie points. I took the number of freebie points used to generate a basic Elder Vampire (Per Elysium), then divided by 3. It feels right, but feel free to disagree!
