Cribbin' from tha MASTAH L.Tzu:

The way of Heaven is not to fight yet to be good at winning --
Not to speak yet skillfully respond.

Heaven's net is large and vast; its mesh may be coarse yet nothing slips through.

Take emptiness to its limit; maintain tranquility in the center.

The things of the world originate in being, and being originates in non-being.

Disaster is that on which good fortune depends.

Act without acting; / Serve without concern for affairs; / Find flavor in what has no flavor.

I agree with Nifft -- get yourself a cheap copy of the Tao Te Ching. In addition, check out Greg Stafford's Nysalor Illumination Riddles from Runequest. They used to be great and they were more inscrutable than the Tao.

Any similar ones to suggest?

"Life is like a tree..."
"It's the way of things."
"Anger is a weapon only for your enemies."
"Man in center of storm often in dark."
"If your opponents will seek to attack you when your hands are empty, you should learn to oppose them empty-handed."

A Zulu proverb I read the other day:

Do not talk of the rhinosoris unless there is a tree nearby.

Means not to tempt fate. Kinda like "speak of the Devil", combined with the idea that if you don't take your umbrella, it will rain:

If you talk about rhinoceri when there are no trees-- you'll end up needing that tree very badly.

The hawk may fly, the fox may stalk, but only the pig hunts for truffles with his nose.

I'm Taoist, so this is right up my alley. :D

"This is a cup. When it is full, what can be put in it? Nothing. Yet, when it is empty, what can be placed inside? Anything."

-- On the Taoist concept of Emptiness.

"And once achieved, he did not fear rhinoceros horn nor tiger claw. For death could find no place to enter."

-- Also, on the Taoist concept of Emptiness.

"The Tao is everything, and is nothing. You are not here, yet I can touch you. The world is dualism, but it is not. Understand."

-- Attempting to describe the Yin, and Yang.

And yeah, the Tao Te Ching is a lifechanging read.

When a fool is happy, Wise men shudder.

Only a fool is free, and he, only from wisdom.

Everything is a weapon in the hands of a man who understands.

Learn to cut with your eyes.
They are sometimes stronger than your hands.

Never cut a man with words. They become a weapon against you.

Think twice. Then say nothing.

Training is not knowledge and knowledge is not strength.
But combine knowledge with training and one will get strength.

Do not be sorry afterwards be sorry before. Then you will be a man
who uses his mind to make his way instead of repair it.

The child is the first and last of all of us. It is said that
at the moment of death, every Master of Sinanju will hear his
own childhood say goodbye to him.

In the world there are hundreds of flowers that bloom each with
its own beauty. Yet not one depends on the others admission of it.
Beauty is beauty and one should accept the beauty that is his. For it
is his own and no one else's.

You were richer in your search than those in their achievement. For
those who induldge with ease, it is of little value. But for those
who seek and make it a great triumph then it is richer.

Fear like breathing is necessary. Fear is a good thing. It is what
keeps people alive. Too much fear, unnecessary fear is dangerous.
That is a bad thing.

Clumsiness always wins an audience. True perfection is a quiet hidden thing.

The deterioration of the body is like a stone rolling
down a mountaion. So easy to start, so hard to stop.

You should rub your eyes only with your elbows.

Every move altered things in some way and that preconceived
operations needed flexibility to be worthwhile.

Stupidity is a function of mankind,
ignorance the beginning of wisdom,
wisdom the knowledge of ignorance.

The most dangerous man is he who does not appear dangerous.

True love is doing what is good for a person.
False love is doing only that which causes
the person to love you.

The mind... You cannot control the body
until you control the mind.

A man who cannot apologize is no man at all.

One should not concern himself with appearances but with results.

No man has ever had two days alike.

Light to a blind man, at best, means only heat.

You seek a man of miracles...
Yet the greatest miracle is man himself.

The greatest weapon is the human mind. A gun is a tool
no better then the mind that wields it.

Imperfection is its own disgrace.

Small errors, left unchecked, grow into large
errors and large errors are what fatalities are made of.

Could and Should are the same for a wise man.

Success comes from learning what will not work.

It is the height of arrogance to fling your chances of survival
into the face of the goddess of fate, demanding that she perform
what you will not. This arrogance is always punished.

A close second is not a desirable place to be
in a battle to the death.

A mother cannot wrong her son to such a degree
that he will not save her in time of danger.

No training, no skill, no energy of force
can overcome the mind of a fool.

Chances are for card and dice games. Not for us.
My teaching is like the rose fragrance in a north wind.

A boast is a gift to the enemy.
