Invasion of Mori IC - Town Group

"I expect they mean to attack," Silhouette grumbles. "Lets see about that..."

She waits for a moment, trying to time it...then casts quickly, hurling a black bolt that explodes into a dizzying array of sparks that sizzle and steam and stick where they fall, clearly outlining movement and shapes.

(Glitterdust! Will save DC 20 within 10' radius burst or be blinded for 14 rounds. Makes hiding all but impossible during that time too. Targeting the area she believes has the most critters hiding in it based on her spot checks.)

Combat!

Silhouette's burst of magic reveals two horribly malformed creatures. They look vaguely humanoid, but twisted, as if their features were melted or distorted somehow. Unnaturally large teeth and sharp claws gleam in the glittering light. They draw back at the sudden magic, but neither of them appears to be blinded. Gems embedded in their chests glimmer faintly.

More movement reveals six other creatures behind these, spaced too far apart for the burst. They give up on hiding when the forward two are attacked. You estimate that they are each 20-30 feet apart from the next, a curious layout for a hunting net, since they seem devoid of ranged weapons. They are spread out in a pincer formation.

Gabriel identifies them as human-related, but not human. There is a story told in a distant region about nightmares that take the form of men, and some of the characteristics would seem to fit, though others, such as the gems, do not.

Addendum

The creatures are still 80' away when Silhouette makes her move. They are large-sized.

[sblock=Gabriel]These are psionic creatures, able to damage minds directly. Something about these seems even more formidable than the rumors you heard, or else the rumors were simply not very accurate.[/sblock]

[sblock=Silhouette]These are no ordinary humanoids, shrugging off your magic. They aren't any magical creature or race that you're aware of. They might be outsiders, though what plane could have produced them?[/sblock]

[sblock=Rose]Though they suck at stealth, those claws and fangs, coupled with the aggressive manner in which they stalked you, suggests that they are predators.[/sblock]

Surprised by the resilience and sheer numbers of the foes, Silhouette breathes a word and vanishes in a momentary gray haze that vanishes as quickly as it came.

From the ethereal plane she watches the creatures as she quickly pronounces another spell and grins as her doubts drop away and magic energy fills her. In another moment her transit spell would decay, dropping her back onto the material world.

And she was ready...

"Blast! These things attack the mind, do attempt to control yourselves!" Gabriel says sharply, and steps forward a bit. "Don't get in front of me unless you wish to feel the power I will unleash upon these wretches."

Holding his hands stretched out before him, his face twisted into a mask of oddly sincere sorrow, Gabriel waits for the creatures to breach his sphere...

OOC: Holding action to cast wave of grief (30 ft. cone burst, Will save DC 21 or take -3 penalty on attack rolls, saving throws, skill checks, and ability checks) when they get within 30 ft. Hopefully when more than one is within range, but no closer than 10 ft.

"Dammit, hurry up about it!" Rose whispers fiercely to Gabriel.

With an ominous hum, the figures disappear in streaks of pink light, reappearing amidst the party. Gabriel manages to catch three in the cone as they materialize, narrowly avoiding hitting Rose in the process. One of them succumbs to the flood of powerful emotions.

As the three materialize, Rose springs into action, landing a flurry of slashes on the saddened creature and inflicting grievous wounds. A spray of blood arcs into the air as he begins to dance, circling around it, twisting his scimitars deftly and ignoring its feeble claw to land a final, punishing blow.

The creature nearest Rose falls, bleeding deeply and breathing heavily.

OOC: Rose is being NPCd per request, and has begun to dervish dance.

A grey patch of mist appears, and Silhouette takes form within it in a reverse of how she vanished in the first place. She quickly moves away from the creatures and casts a spell, snarling syllables in the Abyssal tongue.

Black fire burns in her eyes, and the creatures feel their muscles clenching and sinews tightening against their wills!

(Mass Hold Monster on the two meanies. Will save DC 27 to negate.)
