So, I recentky had an idea to do an Iron Chef thing with world creation after seeing the Iron DM thing going on the boards. Now, I've never actually seen the Iron Chef, so any mistakes are because of that. Amyway, the first ingredients shall be . . .

Buddhism (feel free to modify, as long as it is essentially noticeable)
Aarakocra
Cthulhu
Fey
Native American Culture
Mutations

Well, the simplest method of doing this one would be to break the world down into two factions. The native american-ish aarakocra (perhaps the protagonists and native inhabitants of the world), and the dark fey, who were once the noblest of races, until a great philosopher of theirs discovered the secret of immortality, which is to use focused meditation to study one's place in the scheme of existance, and utilize this knowledge to advance one's spirit along it's path until it is as it would be at the end of time. Unfortunately, anyone who does this comes under the attention (and influence) of the beings that live at the end of time, corrupting them both spiritually and physically. By the time the fey realized what was happenening, their society was completely corrupted, and all their greatest leaders were possessed. Thus followed a plane-hopping campaign of domination, and soul eating.

The Aarakocra, being a nomadic people who believed in the sanctity of the spirit and all life, have been besieged by this alien force from beyond the pale, who hunger to consume the pure and vital spirits of the aarakocra. The only hope for the peaceful people is one of the wisest of the Fey, still uncorrupted, who realized the danger before she reached the end of time in her spiritual voyages. She taught the Aarakocra the secrets of spirit travel, and warned them of the darkness that lies at the end of all things.

A few aarakocra, stronger in spirit than the rest, or perhaps just more determined, decided to risk themselves and their race by reaching through time in the same way the fey did. Instead of reaching for the end of time, however, they reached for the beginning. There they encounted a force of great good and light, the creator, their 'Great Spirit'. Those who succeeded in this voyage were transformed by the touch of the all-creator into beings of superb power, able to create, destroy, and change both the physical and spirtual worlds through force of will. And it is only these select that stand a chance against the forces the hunger in the darkness.

That was easy enough.

I'll give another mix for someone to play with:

Kobolds
Lizardmen
Pyramids
Ice Age
Falling stars
Three suns
Dead gods
Poisoned oceans

Hah! Fear not.

A brief summary:

A long time ago in a galaxy far far away the evil kobolds enslaved the humble lizardmen and forced them to build stupid pyramids. Their corrupt deccadence angried the gods, and so an ice age descended upon the land - all until the night of the falling stars when the three suns appeared - under which the lizardmen prospered. Lizardmen a completely atheistic lizardfolk, the gods eventually died of hunger for worship points, but as a punishment the sea god poisoned the seas near which the lizardmen built their homes - and they were nearly wiped out.

Only a band of heroes can save this world from complete destruction blah blah blah.

So there! ;)

LOL!!!!

We need more published campaign settings introduced in this vein.

Hmm....I wonder what this style (as in sarcastic as heck) of summary would look like for some of the more established settings.

Forgotten Realms: Big wizards showed up, killed a mage god, dropped the flying cities on their heads. Ages later, once people had rediscovered fire and toilet paper, the gods got uppity and were kicked out of heaven. They threw a rowdy party, and went back home, though a few OD'd on mortality. Nobody really cared, because some Gandalf rip-off was the focus of the world anyway.

Try this...

In the beginning was the world. The world was a ball of rock and ice floating in icy blackness.
There was time, but no way to measure it. There was space, but nothing to live in it.
And there were no complaints, because there was nothing to complain. (And nothing for them to complain to, if there had been.)
And then the dragons came from wherever dragons come, bringing light and heat and conflict to the world. They melted the ice into oceans and shaped the rocks into mountains and hills and plains.
The dragons sought out the treasures hidden in the rock for their own draconic ends, forging creatures out of their own flesh to mine and create things of awesome beauty and power. Some of these creatures came from their blood, with all its power. These were called kobolds.
Others they carved from their own flesh. They were tall and strong, but less arcane. These were what we would call lizard men, if we were there: in Draconic, they are kofelsh.
And so these little creatures worked and played on and under the world for their draconic masters, who lived in the sky about them, shining down on them like stars.
The dragons found their little servants gave them a great deal of power when properly directed. They gave them powers in exchange for their service and homage, and thus became gods to them.
Three dragons in particular gathered the most servants and stayed the closest to the world to direct them closely. These three gave so much light and warmth to the world they became known as Suns.

Now the conflict between dragons has broken out into open fighting. The thunder of draconic conflict echoes across the heavens, and dragons are dying and falling towards the world to which they gave life. Their rotting bodies fill the water with blood, poisoning some life, changing others.
The stars are going out as dragons fall to earth, and as each dragon's light and heat snuffs out, the world chills.
The creations of dragonkind are hiding in great strong pyramids, trying to save their own heat, light, and food from the falling bodies and strange creatures created from the dragon's blood.
Perhaps somewhere on the world, a little four-legged creature has evolved its first hair follicle. (But likely not.)
