Is full casting full casting, or is arcane > divine?

Has anyone ever actually played (or seen someone else play) a cleric with a poor melee build (light or no armour, low Strength score, etc.) that still held its own against the wizard? With some people saying that the spell lists are par and others denying it, it would be nice to get some evidence from actual play.

I think that this is a tough comparison. Clerics need to invest minimal effort to have limited melee ability and it would be odd to deliberately remove this. Furthermore, some elements of the build can make a big difference (what domains does the cleric have, for example, and are they able to cast domain spells spontaneously via feats). Finally. whether the cleric is using spontaneous cure spells to heal the party (and thus reducing firepower) is also a factor . . .

I'm strongly contemplating the following Variant:

BattlePriest/Priest:

Priest - will have an expanded list, with a bunch more utility spells, some more blasty spells, a couple aoe cure/inflict spells. Loses medium proficiency. Slow BAB and d6 HD, Saves as Wizard.
3 Domains instead of Two, and can prep domain spells in regular spell slots.
Cure/Inflict at short range instead of touch. Still need to make a ranged touch roll if they're trying to get out of the way.

BattlePriest - Keeps BAB, Armor, and HD. Regular List.
Casts like a Summoner. Make level 6 spells, but gets Buff/Cure/Inflict Spells at lower levels.
Martial Weapon Proficiency (maybe?)

The standard cleric would be unavailable.

Do something similar with the druid.

Would they be worth playing still? (don't compare to the std. Oracle, Cleric, or Druid, but to everything else instead).
