Is there no limit to ability enhancement?

Epic bonuses cost (x^2)*10000

+8 = 640,000
+10 = 1,000,000
+12 = 14,400,000

But there is no limit.

I really dislike the enormous leap in cost between non-epic and epic items. It just encourages the low-epic character to stock up on non-epic items. So instead of a 22nd level fighter having a +8 Strength enhancement item, he has 6 +6 items to all stats, as do his companions. It becomes rather flavourless. And then he still has cash for a multitude of other items and projects.

I'd have been happier if it was a x^3*1,000 gp instead. Then a +6 item would cost 216,000 gp and a +8 512,000 gp, and a +10 item remains at a cool 1,000,000 gp

Just one of my favourite complaints.

Well, it's dangerous to go epic...
You might even face Thor. He knows nothing of items costs and he purchased a belt that doubles his strenght! So now he is around 90...
:D

As a DM I would be tempted to put him in some campaign [evil] :)

Just ot make sure we're completely clear: while items that provide enhancement bonuses are limited to +6, there's not (nor was there in 3.0) any such limit on other sources of enhancement bonuses to ability scores. The strength domain and empowered bull's strength both could exceed the +6 limit for strength, for example.
