Hi everybody

First time poster. I'm putting together my new campain for my friends and I've settled on a high magic, but low magic item, and gritty campain. Probably with a high death toll. I'm shooting for a combination of Young Kingdoms, Hyborea, and Malazan books of the fallen, sprinkled with real world cultures and my own imagination. One of the things that fascinated me about the old rolemaster system was the sheer glut of classes and I want to recreate that since my campain is going to be particuarly deadly. I want lots of options to tease my players into trying something out of their comfort level. To that end I am going to be using gestalt classes as well as a number of the complete series and third party publisher core classes. I really want to make them not just a collection of numbers and stats but classes that have some story behind them. In a way that is similar to the Quintessential two series, I want to give each and every one of the gestalt class combos a new, evocative name and maybe a line or two about their role in the world. and some sort of minor mechanical benefit for choosing that combination to seperate themselves from the herd.

For example, the Ashen Herald is a Bard/Unholy Warrior combination. they represent the political emassaries of the demonic realms on the physical plane. a small number of vile and diabolic spells are added to the bards spell list.

The Souless (Warlock/Unholy Warrior) are born and not made, the souless are rare beings who have their soules stolen from them by dark priestly magics. They are all NE in alignment and cannot have their alignment changed through any mechanism.

Plague Wytches (Druid/Necromancer) Hags who brew deadly toxins and virulent plagues with their dark arts in an effort to cleanse the world of what is unclean. at twentith level, instead of becoming a lich, Plague Wytches take on the form a whatever type of hag they choose and gain all stat bonus, ex and su abilities of the hag, as well as the ability to creat Hags eyes.

Crown Slayers (Assassin/Noble) Assassins who specialize in the murder of the titled. small bonus to ht and dmg when fighting nobility.

Grey Lords (Paladin/Necromancer) Fanatical paladins who've studied long forgotten necromanctic Lore so that when the need is great they can bind the fallen faithful into an army for their god. Can create undead of the remains of the faithful when the need is great and not lose paladin powers.

So you see what I'm getting at. I don't really need the PHB class combo names because I'm going to be using the ones from the Q2 series (which everyone should buy). I need help with coming up with all sorts of names and blurbs for some of the more exotic combinations. Example: what should I call a Necromancer/Gladiator? Gladiator and just about everything is hard to come up with.

I'm using the following new base classes: Assassins, Unholy Warriors, and Necomancers (Green Ronin Pub), Gladiators and Basarian Dancers (Kalamar) Psions, Wilders, Soulblades, Swashbuckers, Hexblades, Warlocks, Shamans, Favored Souls, Marshals, nobles and scouts.eed to come up with names combining each of these new classes with each other and with the PHB classes except for the combinations Paladin/Unholy Warrior,which would just be silly :) Even the more exotic combinations and combos which might not be allowed according the Al rstrictions I want to try and use, ie, Paladin/Necromancer.

So, bring forth the imaginations. I know you all have them.

This spreadsheet might be an easy way to organize responses. Sorry I haven't filled in any of the answers from your first post. Please edit it and put in the ones you have all ready. I'd contribute more but I have to run.

Spreadsheet

That was supercool of you to set up that spreadsheet. I filled it out with the names I have so far. I hope I did it right. I am pretty sadly illiterate when it comes to computer stuff. I'd to hear some ideas from you when you get the chance. Everyone else, please post somthing! If you have an alternate name for a combo that I already have, post it anyway. I'm always looking for something better.

Ideas people, ideas.

ok the the cleric/psion, psion/wizard, wizard/cleric combos can all be named after the prestige class they replace

Rogue/Fighter = Enforcer
Rogue/Barbarian = Thug
Barbarian/Fighter = Warchief
Rogue/Ranger = Stalker
Druid/Shaman = Clan Mystic
Druid/Cleric = Summoner
Fighter or Paladin/Cleric = Crusader
Marshal/Transmuter = Commander
Bard/Assasin = Lurking Mime
Noble/Assasin = Hidden Zealot
Scout/Assasin or Rogue = Specialist
Paladin/Favored Soul = Chosen One
Druid/Monk = Hermit
Warlock/Fighter = Devil (LE,LN) Gaurd, Demon (CE,CN) Gaurd, Deva (CG,CN) Gaurd
Paladin/Ranger = Holy Dragoon
Barbarian/Ranger = Hunter
Ranger/Scout = Skirmisher

how are these?

Those are great. Exactly what I was looking for. Except I only need combinations for the nonPHB classes. For the players handbook classes I'm going to use the Multiclass combo names from the Quintessential 2 series.

I especially like the Lurking Mime and Hidden Zealot. Very evocative.

well how about mages of Elemental specialization.

Fire= Eternal Flame
Cold= Heart of the North
Lighting= Storm Weaver
Acid= Gaea's Avenger
Positive Energy= Lightbringer
Negative Energy= Midnight Envoker
Force= Acolyte of the Mind

and give them at 1st lvl "Energy Sub" of thier chosen element, and make it so they can only cast spells with that elementel type.

awesome. Those are great ideas. The Flower of Chivalry and the Destined ascendant Are particularly cool names.

Now to really test your mettle, what would you call a Gladiator/Any spellcasting class? I've been wracking my brain but I can't come up with anything.

Thanks for the names. They are all definitely going into the list.

Does it matter which 'order' you choose your Gestalt classes? I only ask because you have both "Tomb Knight" and "Soul Reaper" on the chart for Necro/Unholy Warrior cominations, and "Grey Walker" and "Grey Man" for Assassing/Necro combos. There might be more but I only gave the chart a quick glance.

Anyways - here are some Gladiator ideas. I listed two for some combos because I didn't know which you'd like better:

Gladiator/Bard - Crowd-pleaser
Gladiator/Cleric - Pit Martyr, Slave Chanter
Gladiator/Necro - Funereal Challenger (or Vanquisher...)
Gladiator/Wiz - Bloodsport Scholar, Scholarly Slave
Gladiator/Sorc - Born Champion
Gladiator/Druid - Beast Tamer, Arena Witch

Also - I reformatted the spreadsheet, so I'm going to figure out how to upload the new version. It's no big deal - the new version uses wide cells and frozen panes to make it easier to read. I didn't add or delete any names from the chart.
