Level 11 Frost Mage

I have a player who has three levels of Wizard and 9 levels of Frost Mage (See Frostburn). As I understand Prestige Classes, when you take a Prestige class, all your saves and your attack bonus resets to level one all over again and you start with the advancement chart provided by the Prestige class--the bonuses do not *stack* with the stats you had with your previous class.

That being said, my player only has one more level before he maxes out on the known levels for Frost Mage. What do I do next? We could switch him back over and have him start leveling as a Wizard again I guess... but how would that affect the saves and attack bonuses?

Wait ... how did they even qualify?! They need 8 ranks in Knowledge Arcana (wizard 5) and I cannot fathom how a 3rd level character would even fulfill the special requirement!
