I got my grubby little tentacles on a copy, and it looks pretty sweet thus far.

Surprises:

Director: The crawler and other vermin mounts don't appear to be included. Instead, it can bond with any vermin.

Gas Spore: It's a plant monster, not a hazard.

Gibbering Mouther: Why reprint something from the Monster Manual? It is in the "new monsters" section. Weird.

There are numerous variants and reprinted monstere stats sprinkled throughout the race-focused chapters, such as neogi defilers, roguelike neogi that spit poison.

And yes, there is a Codex Anathema tome in the magic items section.

The just-posted designers interview answers my gibbering mouther question:

"Rich: In general, we tried to avoid changing the rules of the monsters; the gibbering mouther was an exception, because the monster as it appeared in the 3.0 and 3.5 Monster Manual was overly complex and not very playable. We did take the liberty of exploring some new "takes" on our iconic aberrations so that someone who'd read a lot of material about them in a previous edition of the game would find something new here."

Well, I'm not exactly sure, but the psionic psurlon variant is a nice addition. And the art doesn't suck.

Sorry for the slow response. I've been real busy the last few days with other things.

The gibbering mouther is nearly identical to the errated MM 3.5 version. Only the artwork is different, and they spell out the "another swallowed victim must cut its own way out" part of swallow whole.
