Didnt Planescape illithids use some sort of psychic mark or tatoo-sort of like magical circuitry? Maybe the planescape 3e site has something.

I am pretty sure that there is one in Lords of Darkness (the FR book on evil groups)... I seem to recall I liked that one compared to the couple others I'd seen... but I could be remembering wrong possibly.. it was a while since i saw it.
