Thanks. It is a rough idea, and I think there are probably some hidden traps (what happens when your weapon gets sundered or stolen? I guess pay to have it put back together or try damn hard to retrieve it.) Interestingly enough, unlike Iron Heroes it actually makes your gear alot more important. This may fit the feel you are trying to go for, with poor adventurers desperately holding onto their precious items.

If you keep in mind that the expected magic items per level can be thought of as a point based system for power that has nothing to do with wealth, alot of possibilities are going to be open for you.

It does make your gear more important, unlike IH, but it also makes your gear part of your character.

And if your sword gets shattered... well... that's what we call plot material! Remember when Roy's ancestral sword got shattered in Order of the Stick and he had to go on an epic quest to retrieve some star metal to reforge it?
