A backlash mechanic would be okay but does mean more dice rolling, in fact any kind of limitation on Wizards would be great. The biggest problem with Wizards is that DnD spells are all auto-success, and removing the last limit -Prep- just turns the whole game worse.Actually now I think about it I think I really like that idea from way back when.
Let the wizard cast that spell out of his book, but like a scroll the pages go woof, with a chance the whole book does.
Granted, in a lot of games, especially in AL, they could just have a dozen books.
Was, in fact, once a standard rule -- AD&D Unearthed Arcana, p.80.Way back when I used to let Magic Users cast spells out of their spell book like a scroll. But they would lose that spell and the pages out of their book, with a chance that they'd lose the whole book.
Well. I think I’m owed royalties!Was, in fact, once a standard rule -- AD&D Unearthed Arcana, p.80.
Time to sue WotC (or is that the Gygax estate?) and get rich!Well. I think I’m owed royalties!
