Is this saying that my dual-dagger using thief can get a shield bonus to make his AC a 16 from 14 at first level. I did not think that thieves could use shields and that getting a bonus like a shield for free is , well- cool or meh.
I can get the idea of using the bonus action to make another attack, but it is at the penalty of not using the bonus action for something else. I know thieves get cunning action and such that uses the bonus action, so the extra attack is not always used. Allowing you to get a free shield bonus some rounds and not others because you want to use other powers may not be the best idea.
Some of this may have been repeated, but I tend to skip down posts where there is a lot of math.
