If a character forgoes a save against a spell, then he forgoes it. Sorry buddy, but if you get tricked you get tricked.
I would never allow a forgo on a poison saving throw. Unless he was like a high level monk or somethign that was "attuned" to his body so much that he could simply tell his body to let it go
I'd save for number 3, make a bluff check, with a big bonus because the troll would want to believe him, especially if the situation called for a bull's str. Once the spell failed, if the character looked very upset and kept wondering why the spell didn't work, I'd give another bluff check. But charm person makes him a trusting friend, so it should be hard for the troll to disbeleive him. You do that several times however, and obviously the trust will fade.
