Monster Classes

I can't navigate my way through Savage Species well enough. If I use a monster race and I want to take the class associated with it(like satyr racial class), too, do I have to start off with the character in the racial class, or can he take it at any time?

According to the rules as written, yes, you have to take the monster class and take it through to the end before multiclassing.

Some DMs (myself included) house rule that and allow the character to multiclass whenever they like.
