Multiclass question

I am only relatively recently getting in to 4E, so I'm trying to get up to date with the new system. I see there are multiclass feats in the PHB, but is that the extent of the ability to multiclass? Are the days of being a Fighter 3 / Wizard 4 over?

Yes.

There are some extra multiclass feats in martial power and will presumably be others in future books, but they are along the same lines as the feats in the PHB. Picking a class is now serious business.

Well, since the bumps to your defenses and D20 rolls are consistent across all classes, multiclassed wizards-with-swords in 4e are actually much more functional characters than 3e fighter 3/wizard 4s.
