Need Help with Copybook/Ads

Fallen Seraph

First Post
I am having a issue with my computer or more precisly my internet that was wondering if anyone would know how to circumnavigate.

Whenever I go on my wireless in my apartment, various viagra-esque adds appear in add boxes instead of the normal stuff, ie: Enworld instead of RPG adds.

Also when using Google sometimes I get redirected when clicking a search to a sponsor website by a Copybook.

I don't know if this is a virus in my laptop or my wireless at the apartment. Since at school and at home (away at college but comes back home frequently) this doesn't happen at all.

It is quite a annoyance so any help be appreciated.

Hi, I can think about two possibilities:
1. and most probable if you use different computers at home and at college: something like CoolWebSearch has infected your PC. CoolWebSearch can be removed with CWShredder which you can find here: Trend Micro™ CWShredder™ - Trend Micro USA . Of course you can find it in other places, too.
After cleaning you should scan your computer for other malware/trojans/viruses with a antivirus program and for rootkits with a rootkit detector (e.g. F-Secure Blacklight).
2. and probably the solution if you use the same laptop/notebook/computer in all stated environments: your wlan-router has been hacked into and another dns server and possibly a proxy-server has been inserted into your internet connection. You can check this in your router configuration, using the manual for help.
If your router has been hacked, you can go two ways:
1. you call the police, which will probably want to save some data from your router for trying to find the offender (mostly no chance).
2. just reset the router to default config, reenter all your router configuration data, enable WPA (2) encryption for oyur wlan (if not already done), then change all your passwords for all services (forums, mail accounts etc.) that you used when connected through your wlan.

Greetings
Firzair
