D&D 5E Need opinion on a race.

So a new homebrewer here, hi. Names Kovac. Anyway, I'm making a new race and id like some opinion on how to make it more balanced.

Anyway, the race is Golem. Not completely original, but gimme a sec.

Tell me what you think. Be brutal if you have to, just keep in mind this is my first shot ^-^'
()!*$, this makes me nervous X-x

Also, forgive me if I posted this in the wrong spot, looked like it to me. New to these strange lands.

EDIT: Changed ability score setup, and added in Golem's Nature. Any thoughts? Golem's Nature is supposed to give a better, more accurate feel towards the Golem. The poison and disease seems strong, but I thought the disadvantage to control could be just as game changing.

A very OK person
Hi and welcome.

Generally, the more obscure races come in one basic variety. You have a lot.

If I were to revise, I'd focus on the core identity of what the golem is supposed to feel like in play. And some of the weirder variants, I'd just put in the description section without modifiers.

Yo, thanks for the input.

I will say I wanted to make a race with alot of variety, but what your saying is sound. I'll try to do something like that.

ad_hoc

(they/them)
5e very rarely uses bonuses (cover being the main one). Instead of a +2 to intimidation they should have proficiency in intimidation. The same goes for the rest of those small bonuses.

I would also remove all of the variants and focus on how to make it feel like a golem. That should make for a strange character but I'm not seeing it in the abilities.

I don't mind the variety of option under a single obscure race. It works for me here.

My main concern would be the Iron golems that gain +3 constitution at first level since no other race in the game gets that. I don't think it breaks anything really, but it isn't very flavorful and is an exception to how races generally work.

I would probably just give the "+2 to a skill" races proficiency in the skill.

Looks like a good start overall. I enjoy seeing what you do with this.

If I were to do this from scratch I would probably just make the race itself +2 Constitution and then the subraces have +1 on their other areas of focus plus a skill proficiency or resistance or a couple of minor benefits (and then make Cadaver Golems a variant). I can see why you might want to do it the way you did it though. Good work.

Thanks for all the input guys! I'll change it up, seems like a lot of people agree to do proficiency instead of +2s, so i'll do that.

As for the Cadaver, is a feat instead of 2 ability points a bit little? With an optional rule, you can substitute getting two ability score points in favor of a feat. Maybe I should add on something else, like a proficiency of choice, given the cadaver's nature? Because the others give two points (equiv to a feat) and another bonus. Should I add a bonus?

Also, I think i'm going to take the recommendation of just having it be +2 con and add +1 depending on variation (like +1 wisdom for clay, etc. etc.) And I see the issue with +3 con on iron. I wanted it to be unique, but now i see what Myopic Sniper means.

Again, thanks for all the input guys :3

Halfling jockeys on orcs do not make for an interesting race. But it does feed the orcs.
Or were you talking about something else?
