Hi,

A friend of my son's (11 years old) has proposed this feat...
I said I'd post it here, get some reactions to it...

...what do people think...?

Thanks in advance, :)

Benjamin

------------------

Combat Maneuver Fighting
Prerequisites: BAB+7, Any two of the following feats: Improved trip, Improved dirty trick, Improved drag, Improved reposition, Improved Disarm, Improved feint, Improved Steal.
Effect: Once per day, plus one time per day for every +4 BAB you have above +7, you may attempt a combat maneuver of one of the above types as a swift action. You also, after failing one of the above combat manuevers as part of a full attack you may immediately attempt it again as part of the same attack by expending two uses of your ability to do a combat maneuver as a swift action. If you failed the first attempt in such a way that you would normally be penalized you are only penalized if you fail the second attempt
Manuever specialist
Prerequisites: BAB+2, any improved manuever feat that penalises you on a huge fail.
Effect: you never penalise yourself after failing a combat maneuver of the type corresponding to the feat you chose as your prerequisite.
Special: You can take this feat multiple times, each time it applies to a different combat maneuver.

Combat Maneuer Fighting is fine, except for the last two sentences. That's just oddly written and seems like an excessive amount of nova-ing to me. Otherwise it's fine, possibly not even often enough/day to be worth selecting as a feat.

Maneuver Specialist I don't understand how it works at all. What penalties for failing? You mean like how you fall down if you fail a trip by 10+? If so, that's probably fine, too, since the feat's only benefiting one type of maneuver.

Obviously, the 11-year-old should play how he likes.

To critique the feat mechanically, I don't believe this sort of thing should be balanced on a "per-day basis". It doesn't make sense for nonmagical abilities to impose this kind of arbitrary limit, and the usefulness of this sort of ability swings tremendously based on what threats the party faces over the course of a day. I'd suggest a tactical feat that allows a swift combat maneuver under certain limited circumstances would fill the same niche without having to resort to per-day mechanics.
