New Sci-fi Campaign Idea

Hi, I've been trying to come up with a sci-fi campaign setting and I've come up with a few idea's.

An alien race contacts the United Nations with an offer. The aliens will share all their advanced technology with the human race if their humans agree to one condition. They help the aliens win a war. The aliens have been fighting a war for sometime and are getting desperate. They need allies and are scouring their corner of the galaxy for any alien civilisations who will help them fight in exchange for technology. Unfortunately, although extraterrestrial life is common in this universe, intelligent aliens are not. Couple this with the fact that very few are willing to join what they see as someone else's war, the aliens are getting very desperate indeed.

Bad news for the aliens is that after several weeks of discussions, talks and arguments in the UN, the Security Council and most of the world governments in any position of authority decide that the risk is too great. A resolution is passed turning down the offer.

However, one country decides to defy the UN resolution and accepts the offer covertly. In my campaign it'll by the British government, if it makes it any easier to swallow assume that the American's take the aliens up.

The campaign will basically be a military orientated one split between military operations against The Enemy and scientific expeditions (It turns out that Earth is located on the very edge of settled space and is therefore ideally located as a jumping point for exploration). Most of the operations will be launched from a command centre located either on Mars, the asteroid belt, or planet in a nearby star system. This base will be the main training centre for the off-world military troops and a major supply and depot for the Human contribution to the war effort. All of this done covertly.

I know it needs a bit of work and fleshing out but do you reckon this would work as a campaign?

Writing this up on Word, this is what i've got so far.

Havoc

They offered to share with us everything. Faster than light travel, the ability to cure deadly diseases, a source of unlimited clean power. There was just one catch. All we had to do was fight a war for them…

...We agreedI]

BACKGROUND:

15 years ago, the Mercadian Star Republic was attacked the Flayn Coalition. What began as a border dispute between two races escalated into a full-scale interstellar war. For a decade and a half, the Mercadians retreated. Turning to the other interstellar powers for aid, the found that they were on their own. In desperation they turned to the one group of people not influenced by interstellar politics. The inhabitants of a small world orbiting an average star in a neglected portion of the spiral arm. They turned to Earth.
In 2005, a small scout ship was sent to Earth to make contact with the human race. Selecting a landing site by random, they land in Great Britain. They make contact with a squad of soldiers sent from the nearby army base.
The Mercadian scouts are eventually able to meet with representatives of the British government. They offer to share all their technology with the human race if we agreed to help them fight a war. After hearing the offer, the government only takes a week to agree to it but imposes their own conditions. First that no other nation be approached or informed of the offer and the British acceptance. Secondly, the location of Earth must be kept secret at all costs. Relieved, the Sponsors agree to these conditions.
Within a few months, the first human troops are being trained at an offworld base located in a nearby star system. The initial commitment is small and it takes time to train up the troops on the advanced weaponry any military hardware.
By the end of the year, British troops see their first combat. The Coalition troops, are routed with only 5 casualties on the British side. With such an easy victory, even more troops are committed. The Mercadians discover that Neural Interface Control systems are compatible with humans. In fact, following a few trials, they discover it is not only compatible with humans but works better for them. They immediately begin training human pilots to operate Mercadian vessels equipped with Neural Control systems. Soon human pilots are on the frontline serving as fighter pilots, dropship pilots, starship crewmen and hover tank drivers.

CURRENT SITUATION:

Year two rolls around. The tide of war is turning. The easy victories of the first few months are now few and far between. In several places the Allied Forces have had to retreat. Back on Earth, the rising number of “training-related” deaths is drawing concern from the media and public.

MERCADIAN (MER-CAY-DE-YAN) STAR REPUBLIC:

In interstellar terms, the Mercadian Star Republic is neither a large nor a powerful nation. A third rate power by galactic standards, the Republic has always been a peaceful nation. The Mercadian have not known war since their races early stone age. Consequently when war between them and the Coalition came, they were totally unprepared. Their technology had never been turned to the arts of war, it had simply never occurred to them.

FLAYN (FUH-LAY-N) COALITION:[/SIZE]

Coalition forces have a reputation for ruthlessness and efficiency when it comes to warfare. When they burst out of their home star system 150 years ago, no one could have predicted that they would soon lay claim to territory nearly 250 light years in every direction. After an aggressive colonisation program, the Coalition found itself hemmed in on all sides by existing interstellar powers. 20 years of probing and espionage revealed the Mercadians as the weakest of the bordering powers. The Flayn Coalition began to engineer an incident that would lead to them being able to declare war without the interstellar community being able to intervene.

ARYN (A-ER-N)

The Aryn were once a proud race. A century ago they were on the verge of discovering the ability to travel faster than the speed of light. The interstellar community was poised to welcome them to the brotherhood of stellar nations. Then everything went wrong. A minor political dispute between the two largest Aryn nations erupted into a global war. Atomic fire rained down from the sky and smashed Aryn civilisation. Since then, they Aryn have managed to climb back to a steam-powered industrial age civilisation. However, the damage to their planet is too extensive and its ecosphere has begun to collapse. Within 10 years it will be uninhabitable. Consequently, the Aryn jumped at the chance to get away from their homeworld. Ferocious in combat, Aryn soldiers form the bulk of the Allied Forces infantry.

UNITED DINAN (DIE-NAN) ALLIANCE:

Hailing from a small, swampy world, the Dinans are a saurian-like alien race, roughly the same height as humanity. When the Mercadians contacted them, they had already began to colonise their home system. Contact with an alien race was the greatest challenge that their fledging world government had ever faced. The unification of their homeworld had presented a problem has a large military force was no longer needed. Budget cuts and reductions in the number of troops had caused mass unemployment in the arms industry and was triggering widespread unrest. The government seized on the offer as a solution to their problem.
Thanks to industrial over capacity and an intuitive grasp of Mercadian technology and science, the Dinan homeworld became a major supply centre for the war effort.

have you decided to do away with the 'covert' training/assistance?

also, what time period would you base this in?

Since I did the first post, quite a bit of discussion has hapened on rpg.net about this. Mainly due to the whole UN and only one country defying the resolution.

Someone came up with the idea that the reason why only one country accepted is that only one country was approached. The aliens simply choose a country at random at that country happened to be the UK.

As for time period, you'll see that from the second post, contact is made in 2005 with the game taking place two years after in 2007.

The UK is still keeping it all a secret which is far easier than if the whole UN had been approached.

Still working on them. I'm using the Fuzion supplement AtomikAliens to design them as it is a very thorough system involving everything from the circulatory system to how the aline moves.
