To coincide with the upcoming release of Dungeons and Dragons Fourth Edition, Wizards of the Coast, Inc and NBC announced a show for the Spring line up "The Grognard". Based on NBC's success with "The Apprentice", "The Grognard" will star twelve long time Dungeons and Dragons fans divided into two teams. Both teams will play in a number of scenarios designed to demonstrate both how to play a role playing game as well as feature the innovations in the new edition. At the end of each day, the team that failed to get further then the other team in the day's scenario meet with Scott Rouse, Senior Brand Manager of Dungeons and Dragons, where he will discuss what happened with the group. "Then I will get to fire a fan," Rouse said. A spokesman for NBC was quick to point out that they are still working on a catch phrase for the show for Rouse to say once a fan gets fired. "Unlike the Apprentice, the fans that get fired by Scott Rouse, or 'The Rouse' as he'll be known as on the show, will become 'a grognard.'" When asked about how this show will work with the writer's strike finishing out its second month, the NBC spokesman responded, "That's the beauty of this show. Role playing gamers are use to working without a script." "The Grognard" is scheduled to air in March on Tuesdays on NBC.
