Off to War - Duet (Gareth)

HolyMan

Thy wounds are healed!
Another great game in the Off to war campaign (aren't you jealous yet and wish to join? sure you do)

Ok Spade this will be a short little game and this thread will be around should we need it for any other times your character goes solo.

Your character is given an assignment by Fallon. Really just busy work some might say but it's better to be useful than a slacker so off you go.

Let's have fun. :D

Gareth heads at a quick trot towards the water wagon and catches up to the hulking barrel on wheels easily as it lumbers along.

Trident in hand he steps up next to the front and walks along keeping pace. He notices two men on the front seat one has the reins in his hands (that leads to the four mules pulling the wagon) the other has a crossbow cranked back but not loaded.

The driver looks down and when he notices you keeping pace he calls out. "Oi! Wha'cha doin? The barrel be empty if'n ye wants ta fill your skin."

The thinner man next to the driver hits him on the shoulder and says in a high pitched voice. "Eh? he ain't be looking fer water. Look'n like he's headed to the water." Pointing at the trident the man continues. "Sees he is a go'n fish'n."

"Nah, I'm the escort." The teenager replied lightly, keeping pace with the wagon, adding an afterthought with some amusement. "Though, if we run into a fish monster then I guess I will be anyways, huh?"

He wasn't sure if the comment was genuine or making fun of him, though, since the Trident honestly was better known for being a fishing tool than as a weapon. But still, he was pretty sure a lot of weapons had started out like that. He didn't really know, not being a weapon expert, but things like Axes were a pretty obvious one. Well, whatever, no point dwelling on it. He'd just have to figure out some jokes about lumberjacks or something.

"Eh? Escort!?" the driver says.

"Fish Monsters!?" the second man starts looking about, empty crossbow at the ready.

[sblock=OOC] Sorry I got to this late I didn't move it to my DM folder so missed it. just post something to calm them down and maybe a Diplomacy or Bluff depending on what you wish to say.[/sblock]

Gareth blinked at the reaction, and made a note to not make stupid jokes like that around them in the future. It really wouldn't be good if his first assignment ended up exploding because they had a panic attack.

"Whoa, relax. I was joking about the fish monster." The red head explained, stressing the word joking for emphasis. "Fallon told me to escort the wagon, just in case the bi... Er, something came up."

The teenager wanted to smack himself in the head for almost mentioning that Fallon had heard about a "Big Beasty", which would probably make the two freak out even more instead of calm down, but didn't have a free hand to do so with.

[sblock=OOC] No problem, but uh, how would I do a diplomacy/bluff anyways?[/sblock]

The driver looks perplexed than smiles at Gareth. "Can't be to careful I guess and Fallon knows what he's about." He turns to say something to the man beside him and noticing the crossbow he slaps him on the shoulder with his cap.

"Can'founded Willybin load that der thing if'n ya plan on use'n it." he looks away disgusted and stirs the mules back alittle as the move wrong from his distraction. "I'm Dreks this here is Willybin the Stupid."

"I ain't stupid," Willybin says under his breath. "Just not learned is all."

Gareth let out a small sigh of relief, glad they hadn't noticed the near-slip up. At least mentioning Fallon seemed to calm them down, making him wonder how well-respected the old man might be.

"I'm Gareth." He introduced himself, looking around as he kept pace with the water wagon before centering his attention on the wagon itself. "How do you fill this thing up, anyways? It'd take a long time with buckets..."

[sblock=OOC]It's a good thing the requirement for that was pretty low, I was a bit worried that 11 wouldn't cut it and then they'd run around like headless chickens. ;)[/sblock]

"Ha ha, it would indeed." Dreks sas to the comment. He kicks the box like area under the seat. "Gots a hose in here and we pumps the water in."

"Speak'n of which." Willybin says pointing.

Gareth follows his finger and seas a small river coming into few through the trees.

"Still needs to go south a mile or so," Dreks says turning the mules in the mentioned direction. "Best place to get close to the water."

Gareth finds that the wagon has slower going once of the rutted path it was following and he needs to slow his pace some.

It takes nearly a half an hour to go the mile Dreks said they needed to go. But the trees thin out an open marshy field (that is probably flooded in the early spring) leads right up to the water and Dreks pulls the wagon right up along side it.

As the two men get down and start to set up the hoses and hand pump, Gareth watches the water flow by.

"Wha'cha tink'n 'bout Gareth."
Willybin says shaking the boy out of his reserve.

[sblock=OOC] Little insight to your character will help me with how to move this along. Trust me I'm good at this just need that push to move forward. [/sblock]

"Hm? Oh, not much I guess." Gareth's response was a bit delayed, the comment having snapped him out of his thoughts suddenly and taking a moment to register. "Just enjoying the weather."

The teenager had, initially, been enjoying their surroundings. Back home, one of his favorite things to do was to simply relax outside. But that had been a farm, full of fields, with the only variation being a nearby forest he wasn't allowed to go near that often. It was still great, no mistake.

But the river, and the currently dried up marsh, had a different feel to it. The air was... Different. There was a mist, of sorts, thanks to the river, but it was very light. It made him wish he wasn't here on guard duty, so he could relax like he would back home.

That thought had led to another, making him consider what other places would be like. Of course, he wouldn't enjoy most of them. If it was too hot, or too cold, or something, that wasn't really relaxing. But, still, he was curious.

It was actually funny, now that he reflected on those thoughts. Most people would want to go some place to uncover history or something productive, not enjoy the weather.
