One Round Spells and... Stuff

Hi Everyone,

Simple question regarding the legality of the following: yes or no (although if you wish to expand, feel free).

First round: Wizard moves (move-equivalent) then starts casting a one round spell.
Second round: The wizard is still casting. He finishes casting that spell. Does the wizard have enough time (or action stuff) up the sleeve to then cast another regular spell (standard action) and then perform a quickened spell (is it swift now?) in this second round?

All ideas and correspondence welcome.

Best Regards

The wizard has enough time for a move-equivalent action. He has enough time for a quickened spell.

Basically... you can...

A) Cast a Full Round Spell (Like Summon Monster) and 5 foot step. Then next round your spell finishes just before your action. So you have a normal round (Standard Action Spell + Move).

or

B) Move and start casting a Full Round Spell. Next round you finish casting the spell (this takes up your standard action). So now you can move, draw an item, or whatever.

Your wizard is doing option B.

Make sense?

Answer is "No". From the SRD "CombatI: Standard Actions":

Start/Complete Full-Round Action
The “start full-round action” standard action lets you start undertaking a full-round action, which you can complete in the following round by using another standard action. You can’t use this action to start or complete a full attack, charge, run, or withdraw.

(he, him)
He can't cast a standard action spell, because he has used his standard action to complete the full round spell. He could cast a quickened spell however, and/or take a move action (if the move action doesn't involve actual moving, he can also take a 5ft step).

He could cast a spell that had a casting time of 'one move action', but AFAIK there are none. IIRC, there are some move action psionic powers, though.

I belive it breaks at this step:

A full-round action and a one round action are different things.

Yes, but a 1 round action technically takes longer, so apply the start a fullround action rule to it would be the most lenient thing you could do.
