Well, I would also have chosen Artesia and Gloom in the RPG and card game categories. I have to look into that board game; it sounds very interesting!

:) Congrats to all of the winners! :)

I've not played Shadows Over Camelot yet but I've watched the Demo DVD that Days of Wonder sends out to the stores and it looks like a great game. A friend of mine and I have been hoping to put a game together sometime soon.

I ordered Shadows Over Camelot a week or so ago, so I expect it will arrive soon. I'll post my impressions once I've received and played it a couple of times.

Are you all talking about the fan award winner, Shadows over Camelot?

What about the actual award winner, Parthenon: Rise of the Aegean? That's the one I never heard anything about.

Board Game Geek gives it 6.7 out of 10. That doesn't sound like board game of the year material to me.

That was my reaction, too, but the actual play reports were all positive. Bruno Faidutti also gave it a good review on his web site. Still, I doubt it's a better game than Caylus or Knights of Camelot.

The OAs have a terrible image in the hobby. It'd be nice to see them finally put all the turmoil of the past few years behind them and grow into something valuable. Maybe this is at least a step forward.

I've read two rpg.net reviews about it. Both gave it a 4 for style and a 4 for substance. The testers liked it, but it seemed to lack a bit in the communication department, because large parts of the game are played by each player on his own.

Nevertheless, I'll take a look at it. My best friends have roughly 300 board games, and I suspect it's not only "game of the year" material :D. I might just buy it as a gift and try it out at their place ;).

I found Shadows Over Camelot amusing enough, but people with very strong competitive streaks probably won't like it because you aren't usually competing against the other players (unless you happen to draw the traitor). I happened to be the traitor my first game, and it went quite well, so I enjoyed it. Serious competitive strategy gamers would probably prefer Kaylus or Puerto Rico.
