(OT) So what is there to do in Montreal?

My overall advice is to make sure you don't miss Toronto when in that part of Canada. That place rocks.

Toronto is still pretty far from Montreal. I remember 7 hour car rides from Toronto to Ottawa.

I recommend old Montreal and, of course, club super sex! ;)

Why the heck didn't I think of doing something like this instead of sitting in my hotel for a week of endless lectures? [I actually did get around some but did not know where to go, so I kinda drifted.]

Rue St-Catherine (St-Catherine street) around the McGill metro area is a good place for shopping, though not the cheapest.

Here is the STCUM (Montreal's buses/subway company) website :

Here is a direct link to Tous Azimuts, which is a sort of Mapquest restricted to the Buses/Subway system, it's quite useful if you have the address of wherever you want to get to, but have no idea how to do so via Bus/Subway : http://www.stcum.qc.ca/English/azimuts/a-index.htm

Here is a link to the English version of the City's official Tourism section, it's not that complete but there it is :

Here is another Montreal tourism websites :

... It's like a cleaner, quieter and more boring New York. (And I don't like NYC much either as a tourist).

HH... Say it ain't so! NYC is The City, not just a city. If you're tired of NYC it's time to pull the 6ft thick dirt blanket on over you and go to sleep for good. Next time you get down to the Apple give me six hours and I'll change your mind, promise!

I grew up in Montreal and in fact, I was there again this past weekend for a concert (Matt Good at the Metropolis :D), so I'll toss in my two cents.

Not speaking french isn't a big deal, you still shouldn't have any big trouble dealing with people and getting around. This isn't Quebec City, after all. ;)

For food, I recommend checking out La Fleurs and/or La Belle Province. Particularly the first if it's a hot sweltering day, then sit on the terrace and enjoy watching the world passing you by. Oh, and one of those street-side pizza places downtown are hard to beat too (I call them street pizza). Also, be sure to order a poutine at least once. Nothing beats a good poutine, but they're hard to come by. If you happen out to the West Island, drop by Expo in Pincourt (where I grew up; it's on the same little island as Ile Perrot, sandwiched between Ste Anne De Bellevue and Dorion), they have killer poutine.

Wander around the old port on a sunny day, not much tops that.

Visit Mont Royale, at least once.

And be sure to take in the nightlife, it's hard to beat.

Being that you're an RPGer, then check out Le Valet D'Coeur, as another poster mentioned. It's my favorite RPG store. They also have anime, conventional board games, models, and such. Very cool place.
