Actually, to expand on the original post... Imagine that a city has a number of driver-less wagons performing some task or other on a regular schedule and, this being known to the general populace, it becomes a common practice to use those wagons as a free form of public transport for those agile enough to hop on and off the slowly moving wagons...

Practically, i'd think the spell/ritual would have a decent GP material cost to the casting, making affordable to adventurers and guilds. The guilds would hire guards to protect their investments. It'd plod along from sunrise til sundown, allowing guards to camp. At a higher level/GP cost, it could move faster with no stops on larger wagons. Thinking sleep cab on semis. An industrious guild might even enchant the cargo area with a cold spell.
