Kamael suspected that the scouts may return with kuo-toa hot on their tails! In order to get as much advance warning as possible, he fired off Message spells to Solace every ten minutes or so, but failed to get any reply.

Cerek scanned the area for any immediate threats. If those fish men that had fled had warned the others, the town may be waiting in ambush. He hadn't killed any of their number. He could see how things panned out.

But he was interested to see how these new people handled themselves. They hadn't been immediately hostile, and seemed to have escaped from the Drow. He already kind of liked em. He passed the woman one of his torches, then hid to the best of his ability.

Solace affixed a light spell to the torch handed to her by Ce'rek, then lobbed the torch toward the north and east. She hoped to hit near the point, by the water's edge where the rocky shore abutted the inky water of what she could only guess was The Darklake. The toss was, however, a miss. Ce'rek kept a keen eye out, and, pressing himself flat against the west wall of the passageway, stayed hidden while Solace mucked about with the torch and a bit of spellcraft.

OOC: Dexterity DC 12 to hit that square at Solace's current angle, Kobold Stew. Failure by five or more means something unexpected happens ("no, and..."). Pick one of the following and narrate Solace's response: 1) the torch falls into the water with a loud splash at K2 and sinks but its light remains glowing beneath the water; 2) the torch falls into a tangle of dry reeds at J8, flushing out a creature; 3) Solace lobs the torch so hard that it flies well past her intended mark, landing in P4, and coming to a skittering stop in T5.

Raza permitted the driftglobe to bond with her, feeling as she did that this item was hers and hers alone. Was it a trick of the light, or did the orb seem to preen a little under her careful touch? Kamael repeatedly attempted to establish communication with Solace, but his message spell failed to hail her. Or she was incapacitated and unable to respond. The seconds ticked by, slowly.

Brinn became one with stone; he fell into a meditative stance and ceased moving. Indeed, even his breath slowed, coming to a near stop. The absence of Brinn's response to the cavern's quiet stimuli calmed Stool. The longer he stayed still and continued to meditate, the more Brinn felt the myconid at his side loosen and relax. After a while, even the telepathic link was peaceful. For the nirvana of several minutes, Stool ceased to fret.

Solace lights the torch she receives from Ce'rek, which is laden with pitch. When she throws she miscalculates the weight, and it lopes off to the side, the spinning magical flame whirling around the hub of an imagined wheel as it vera of the ox-pth and into the ditch. The ditch, in this case, was the water, into which the torch fell with a loud splash (K2). Normally a torch would float, but whether because it was infused with pitch or simply because it would dim the illumination she hoped to achieve, it sank. Its light remained glowing beneath the water, radiating out through the surface and providing a dim, green-brown light to the surrounding area.

Shadows danced as the water recovered from the impact, haunting shapes that thinned into nothingness. Solace was disgusted with herself but she peered into the twilight to see if the light provoked a response.

Deep within the water--far lower than the pitch-infused torch--there was a flare of burgundy light. Solace and Ce'rek peered into the perpetual night air, and for long moments there was no other response. After a while, however, ripples emanating from some unknown source further out began to lap at the shore. Even so, it remained deathly quiet. From their current position, neither Solace nor Ce'rek detected further movement or sound. It seemed no one was here.

They wait, and then wait some more. It's a long, full minute, with the eerie glow emanating from below the water surface. The water returns to stillness, and so far no creature has emerged from the shadows (by land or sea) to investigate or devour the light. That reassures Solace.

She looks at Ce'rek. "We can both go back for the others, or just one of us, as you wish. I do not think we should proceed form here without the others. So far, we know, is safe."

OOC: While we wait for Wrex to respond to Solace's prompt, I've one quick question: Do either Solace or Ce'rek want to poke their head out of the passageway and look around, or are you content to remain safely ensconced inside the passageway mouth? This shouldn't be read as a prompt; rather, I'm clarifying because you've both attempted Perception checks but have only done so from inside the tunnel. Also, while I'm inquiring about actions, does anyone else want to do anything in particular while you wait for Solace and Ce'rek to return? GlassEye, Yavathol, lowkey13, industrygothica.

"You get your friends. I wait here". The woman's throw had left something to be desired. Plus if he was spotted, he didn't want to be with one of the group that had attacked.

It was odd that there was no sound. Were they all in the water?

OOC: Once Solace leaves, Cerek does want to poke his head out and see what he can see

Kago is content to rest until Solace gets back. Though, if it takes much longer he'll assume the goblin betrayed her, because goblin, and will go searching after them.

Kamael paced restlessly, obviously keen to proceed down the tunnel but instead waiting for Kago and Raza. "There has been no sound of combat, why don't we proceed after them instead of waiting for them to come all the way back?"

At that point, he remembered something though, which obviously distracted him, as he pulled a metal flask of acidic unguent from his pack, "What do you make of this, Raza? I don't think its a potion, lets see if we can figure out what it is?"

OOC:
flask of acid, for throwing at trolls?
