OK simple scenario. Our starting character a Felan assassin (level 2) with Deadly Strike and a starting AGI of 8 is waiting to see in any patrols approach the building where the rest of the party is "recovering" the McGuffin. Being fairly intelligent when he sees the 8 man patrol crossing the open quad he declines to fire until they are 10 hexes from cover. Declares Overwatch for the next round. He can now fire 8 shots at the unsuspecting patrol 1 to each. On their initiative the patrol with their first step is either wiped out or is severely damaged. Base damage for sniper rifle is 4 dice add 4 dice because they were unaware of him, add in 2 dice from his attack dice. So 8 attacks with 4 dice to hit for 10D6 damage. :erm: Not bad for 1 aging frail Felan

Maybe a penalty to hit after the first target? I'm not sure but something is needed for balance.

Not sure where the double damage for being unaware comes in, but keep in mind that an AGI of 8 is *much* higher than the average human. Its closer to that of a special forces sniper who, just for the record, could probably take down 8 guys in a period of 6 seconds fairly easily, assuming their rifle fired that fast.

Also keep in mind that in your example he'll have under a 30% chance of hitting a target with the same 8 in AGI that he has. And that damage is further reduced by ballistic armour.

Work: AGI 8 = defense 16. Average of 4d6 is 4 x 3.5 = 14. Standard deviation of 4d6 is √(4*(6^2-1)/12) = ~3.14. Difference is 14 - 16 = -2, over the standard deviation gives a deviation of -2/3.14 = -0.58z which is ~28% when you reference a z-score table.

overpowered

Starting AGI for a Felan is 5 fairly easy to get to an 8 for a starting character

And Since anyone gains 2 dice damage for shooting an unaware target. I suspect that these dice should be added to that giving him 12 dice of damage.

Assassin tradition
I: If you successfully hit a target before he becomes aware of you, you gain a +2 dice damage bonus.
II: Your damage bonus for attacking unaware targets increases to +4 dice.

Also even 10 dice of damage would average 35 points. END 7 Char has 21 hp standard Security officer has 12 HP. Subtract 8 point soak and you have dead patrolmen.
Defense of those officers in 13.
A special forces sniper is highly trained to say the least, this is a starting character.

Only the first target will be unaware. I'll clarify that in the sniper ability.

A group strolling across an open area is, indeed, in terrible danger from a sniper. The issue right now is that all of those shots happen simultaneously, not allowing anyone to dive for cover. That's been fixed in the next update, but overwatch shots don't happen simultaneously any more. He'd hit the first one, and the others would dive for cover. He might get one or two more shots at a couple before they all made it to safety.
