Well now you can!

OWC is proud to release in PDF format the first of its Countdown Mission Packs™: Operation Dead Drop.

The Countdown Series presents intense, high drama missions with the urgency of the show "24" and the creativity of a Bond movie. Each Countdown Mission Pack presents players with action-oriented, focused adventures that will plunge their characters into "catch your breath" style gaming. Countdown Missions are designed for use with d20 Modern.

Operation Dead Drop:

As the mission begins, Saddam Hussein has announced to the world that Iraq is now a nuclear power. Unless the United Nations drops all sanctions against Iraq, Israel exits completely all land claimed by the Palestinian people, and the United States ceases all aggression against the Iraqi Republic, in 24 hours a nuclear tipped Taep'o-dong 1 (TD-1) missile, acquired from North Korea, will be launched at Tel-Aviv, Israel. To prevent a military response, Hussein has taken a group of foreign nationals hostage, including 5 Americans, and hidden them at an undisclosed location.

In this Mission Pack™, PCs take the role of Delta Force soldiers sent into Iraq to complete a two-fold operation:

1. Rescue all hostages, and kill all onsite Iraqi personnel.
2. Assassinate Saddam Hussein and thereby prevent him from launching the missile.

The hostages are being held at a secret detention facility near the city of Ar Rutbah in western Iraq. Once the hostages are rescued, the PCs must travel to the Abu Ghurayb Presidential Palace, south of Baghdad, and assassinate Saddam Hussein, the Iraqi dictator.

Both missions must be completed within 24 hours or the missile will launch. If Saddam gets word of the hostage rescue, the missile will launch. Israel has also informed the Bush Administration that if Iraq launches, Israel will respond in kind.

This Mission Pack™ is a challenging adventure for use with D20 Modern. Players must pit all their skills and wits against the Butcher of Baghdad in a desperate attempt to save the world.

This product includes:
· Maps and satellite imagery from the CIA and State Department!
· Images and photos of US Special Forces in action, courtesy of the US Department of Defense
· A detailed 32 page adventure complete with time frames and plot movers.

This electronic version of Countdown: Operation Dead Drop can be downloaded here: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=2143 and retails for $5.00.

It's extremely far-fetched to imagine that a group of human shields would stop a military response to global nuclear blackmail.

Not many goverments espouse Kantian ethics-- utlitarianism wins the day.

I love the premise, I just wish it held up to casual scrutiny. I think most of the folks who'd enjoy playing such a scenario would have the same response as I.

EDIT: To be constructive-- You could simply say, for example, that the PCs are sent in "ahead of the game" to prevent the necessity of that military response. If they don't solve the problem immediately (the US can stonewall for a while) then the US military response is activated.

Of course, that's assuming that Israel would stand by for even a second, which they wouldn't.

I agree with wulf, the US would launch an airstrike or israel would and back it up with counter batteries of anti air missles and planes.

great premise, i like it, ballsy, sounds good, dont think it's feasable.

Actually, the PCs are the military response. :)

Depending on how you play it, the PCs are either Delta Force soldiers sent in to take care of business, or a squad sent along with the DF guys.

As for Israel, the US has asked for the time to get the job done without nukes flying and Israel has given it to them. When the 24 hours have run out, the missiles start flying.

Finally, something I can use to make good use of Big Bang: The Mostly Illustrated RPG Guide to Modern Weapons, Special Edition...

It was pretty dumb of me to write a book about the weapons used on all sides in the recent war without actually getting around to drawing up some scenarios...

If you like Operation Dead Drop, be on the look out for Countdown: Family Vacation. We've just received the text and it should be available in PDF format within the next couple of weeks.
