For those of you who have experience in play-testing classes (not just evaluating on paper, but actual play-testing), can you give me some tips on how you go about it?
Assuming you are play-testing combat-oriented base classes and prestige classes:
What is your general procedure for play-testing a class?
What type of fights do you make it go through, and against what type of opponent?
Do you focus on testing specific abilities or do you go for a more general test-combat?
Do you always use a 4 PC balanced party or do you only use the class in question?
Do you incorporate a benchmark class for comparison into the play-test (i.e. a ranger 15 vs a ranger 5 / ranger PrC 10, for example)?
How do you play-test habilities that are not useful in combat?
I know this is a bit vague and covers a lot of possibilities, but I am just looking for some general guideline. Feel free to give me any tips that may be useful. Thanks.
