PPA: The Case of the Eerie Aerie

Korva nods as her mouth sets in a thin line. "Very well, then. We do this a more mundane way." Since the wolf is currently in a magically induced slumber she isn't going to worry too much about waking it on her way in. After all, it hasn't woken yet. Once she gets her hands on the egg, however, she is aware that all H...griffon is gonna break loose. She looks over her shoulder at Shard on her way in. "Keep that wolf ready."

Korva enters the cage walking lightly but not attempting stealth. Nearing the griffon she will lower her weight to give herself a more stable balance and slowly reach out with both hands to the egg. Suddenly her hands dart forward and grabs the egg. With a twisting wrench she tries to pull it from the griffon's grasp, turn and leap past the wolf to safety.

Randell reaches for a potion of Enlarge Self located in his backpack, He quietly moves inside the gate and off to the left. He watches intently as Korva approaches the beast. He stands ready to down the potion, and move to intercept the Griffon should the need arise. Best case, He will follow Korva out and secure the Gate. Worst case, if it gets past the wolf, he will drink the potion and attempt to prevent its leaving the cage. With a nod to shard, and as quietly as he can make himself understood, “did I hear you say you could blind the beast? Will the spell wake it from its sleep?, That might be dang good cover for Korva.”

"Probably," Shard admits. "It's not a very subtle spell."

She gives Korva a nod. "When the griffon awakes, I'll have him try to pin it, so it can't come after you."

Egg in hand, Korva noted a muscle twitch from the Griffon which meant the creature was no longer asleep. Without awaiting for such, Korva sprung from the precarious position beside the once subdued Thunderthrill, to beyond the summoned wolf and beyond that to the opposite side of the gate.

Immediately, the Griffon rose back on its haunches. This elicited a sharp hiss of revulsion from the Senechal. The entirety of the underbelly of the griffon was a bizarre mess of pock-marcked and boil-bloated flesh. Tendrils seemed to seep eerily from the hideously deformed griffon. The once majestic Thunderthrill had mutated excessively where the light of day failed to touch her.

More than just claws descended on the Dire Wolf facing off against the enraged Thunderthrill. A pair of tentacles similarly lashed at the conjured creature, attempting to wrap about the furred form of the wolf as they pummeled the equally massive creature. Screaching in earnest, the Griffon snapped its eagle-like beak at the wolf, but failed where it's other attacks had succeeded. If the summoned dire wolf was unnerved, it didn't show.

OOC: That's combat round-0. PC's are on one side of the open pen; wolf is inside in melee (taking 24HP damage / failed grapple-attempt)

Velastri hisses a curse in Undercommon, nocking an arrow. The half-elf pauses for a moment, remembering that the griffon is, or at least was, valuable property. His eyes dart to the Senechal.

"Milady, it would seem the griffon has been twisted, corrupted by that egg-thing. As it is now enraged, and no longer in the prime condition she previously was in, do we have permission to strike to kill? I regret asking such a thing, but this is no longer Thunderthrill as you knew her..."

Velastri tries to remain calm as he speaks, not letting the edge of fear into his voice. Such a thing would only disrupt the proceedings. His eyes return to the griffon, following its movements as the half-elf archer-mage steps back, trying to get well out of reach.

[sblock=OOC]
Init: 19. 21 if this is considered "Urban".

Once his turn comes, 5-ft. step backwards and ready action to shoot single arrow at the griffon, if the griffon gets out of its' pen. Otherwise, he'll wait for the Senechal's response before firing.

Hand on the hilt of her sheathed weapon, the shocked Senechal could do little more than nod in acquiescence. She stammered, eyes wide with burgeoning fear at the sight of the hideously deformed monstrosity which had become of Thunderthrill. That she had never seen anything so unnatural and unwholesome before was made all too obvious by the look of dread on her face. That she deemed offense acceptable similarly made obvious by the hand on her own weapon. "Kill-it." She stated firmly, teeth gritted against the pain of the statement.

Korva is horrified at the turn of events and the fact that she holds in her hands the agent of such a terrible change. "Kill it, Randell. Kill it!," she says unintentionally mimicking the Senechal. Uncertain what to do with the egg but not wanting to hold it in her hands any longer she dumps her haversack on the floor and hastily wraps the egg in her knitting before shoving it into the side pocket. She can't help but wipe her hands on her pantlegs.

Shard winced at the sight of the griffon's transformation, and nodded her agreement with the Senechal's assessment. She directed a single word to the massive dire wolf in the pen.

"Attack."

The huge creature immediately changed it's posture, lowering its head and ears and baring its teeth in a fierce growl. As it lunged, fanged maw gaping to bite, Shard added a spell to the mix. Dire wolf and eldritch bolts of light collided with the Griffon simultaneously!

(Wolf attack! 27 to hit, for 14 damage!)

(Wolf has DR 5/magic and DR 4/evil...let me know if either of those applies to the griffon's attacks.)

Randell lets out a yell, "Velastri, Shard, spread out to the left and right out side the bars. Try to find a location where you can attack from safety. If it kills the wolf, Ill try to keep it busy while you bring it down." He drinks the enlarge person potion he had readied and moves to stand between Korva and the beast, if possible.

OOC: this decreases his AC to 30, increases his AB to +14/+8 and increases his CBM and CMD by one plus the bonus for being large (+1). Also his weapon now does 2d6 +9 damage.

Init bonus = +1, +0 after the potion.
