If there isn't already a feat out there for this, I think it would be a good idea to allow a version of the Practiced Spellcaster feat (from the Complete Books), to allow multi-classed druids/rangers to advance their animal companions. Maybe we can call it Loyal Animal Companion, or something.
The benefit would allow a character to add +4 to their effective level for determining the nature of their Animal COmpanion, up to their character level. A fighter 4/druid 5 would get the benefits of a ninth level animal companion.
Has it been done? Is it broken?
