The real answer: It depends. The law itself only says that you can't make any copies except for some gray areas called "fair use". Beyond that, it depends upon what the copyright holder licenses you to do.

At least, that's my layman's interpretation. IANAL, YMMV, &c.

If you can, print on demand from a publisher, it's usually cheaper, and better for the publisher, thus encourages them to write more, similar stuff you might like.

Failing that, LuLu.com. I haven't tried it yet, but friends swear by it, and it may become my favorite way of doing this. Take a PDF, send it to them, they print off a copy, and you now have both the PDF for ease of use (I like the search feature for use during games, or taking dozens of books with me to work via laptop), and a nice book, with your choice of bindings.

You can get a 256 page book printed for under $10.
