Proof that backlist sales matter in PDFs . . .

If the distribution system for print products wasn't in shambles there would be healthy backlist sales of printed books. As it is, though, most distributors and retailers are more concerned with the next big collectible game and thus are not willing to devote time and money to keeping a strong backlist selection available.

People frequently ask why big, expensive hardcovers are the norm these days. It is because those are products some retailers will reorder. These days softcovers are treated like magazines by most retailers and distributors: order once and do not reorder if the copy sells.
