Prot from Evil and called creatures

The "third function" of the 3.5 version of Protection from Evil clearly works only against summoned creatures. No problem with that.

The text for the 3.0 version isn't so clear. It says: "The spell prevents bodily contact by summoned or conjured creatures."

What does "conjured" relate to? Does it mean that 3.0 protection from evil works against every creature that appears as a result of a conjuration spell, like a called creature?

Thanks.

Ragged idiot in a trilby.
The way we've been playing it (still using 3.0) is that you can't be touched by any summoned, called, or other spel (ie. Lesser Planar Ally), unless it has an alignment as specified in the spell.

I think I'd allow the spell even to protect against Gated outsiders, but then they have pretty good Spell Resistance to overcome it.

So good summoned creatures can hit you if you've got Prot. Evil up and running.

And there's still the AC and save bonusses, of course.

We've always played that it kept out summoned creatures but didn't affect creatures which were called or gated (since they were actually physically present rather than merely being there in a sort of reverse-astral-projection sense)

Cheers

As an extension, lets say a NG wizard opens a Gate to the abyss, and himself and his LG monk friend step through.

Will the monk then be unable to use unarmed attacks on those fiends that cast Protection from Good on themselves?

Will the wizard be unable to use touch spells on those fiends?
