Question about islands, mountains and snow

Wraith Form

Hi,

My group has been stranded on an island--an area more like North America, not Carribean / tropical. How high up an island mountain do I need to travel before I hit snow & ice?

(My players are going to have a mini At the Mountains of Madness moment....BWHAHAHAHA)

Also, would the WotC Frontburn book be helpful?

From Frostburn:
As a rule of thumb, each 1000 feet of elevation reduces temperature about 3.5 degrees as compared to ground level.

Your target temperature is 32. Assuming a baseline temperature of 67, that's 10000 feet above ground level - probably sea level in this case.

Wow, that answered both questions at once--the height question and the Frostburn question....LOL

Thank you! (both of you)

...I wonder how long it'd take for a group of four to climb that high.....? What if it was a slow, gradual increase in elevation rather than *bam* mountain....? Hmm.

I love that D&D makes us investigate weird questions about esoteric topics!
