My DM has a house rule: ...

Yep, that's just the rule for recent casting limits, which applies to arcane casters all the same.

Spell slots used within the last 8h before memorizing/prayer cannot be used on the next day.

Yeah, your DM was wrong. ;) You can tell him or her that Mousferatu and Jhulae said so. ;) And the books, too. :p

:D DM admitted mistake when Greylock looked up the rule. It had just been moments, so it was an easy backpeddle and now we'll aways remember. :)

They had had a rough enough time leading up to that point anyway. ;)

A cleric that misses his usual time can prepare spells at the first available opportunity (so a cleric thats running for his life or fighting when he would normally prepare spells must immediately start praying as soon as he has the free time). So your not automatically screwed if you cant prepare them at your usual time....you just have to take your first chance to do so...

A divine spellcaster chooses and prepares spells ahead of time, just as a wizard does. However, a divine spellcaster does not require a period of rest to prepare spells. Instead, the character chooses a particular part of the day to pray and receive spells. The time is usually associated with some daily event. If some event prevents a character from praying at the proper time, he must do so as soon as possible. If the character does not stop to pray for spells at the first opportunity, he must wait until the next day to prepare spells.

Cool! Learn something new each time I visit these boards :)
Thanks Taloras!

Emphasis added. I'm usually pretty flexible as a DM, if they miss their designated hour, then they can pray at the first available time and get spells. If they take time to set up camp before prayer, nope, not devout enough...

EDIT: Um..yeah..what Taloras said.
