A medusa with a coterie of gargoyles. She blindfolds herself since few would trust her not to use her gaze attack on them - either her hair of snakes allow her to see through them, or one or more of the gargoyles attend her at all times, guiding her and acting as her eyes.

A cowardly Ogre, a Gnoll Ranger, an intellectual Minotaur, a Goblin medicine woman, a redeemed Harpy. Good, or no, they still can't get into most cities.

The duergar would be a good choice, especially if they were not as dour as they normally are. They would be a possible source of information on the Underdark. The derro would work as well, but having them good and sane would be a shock.
Rakshasas would be a good choice. Or you could go Sepulchrave's route, and have a redeemed demon or devil. The party would have a strong reason to distrust such a figure, but if they can actually confirm that the fiend has rejected evil it could lead to very interesting situations.
