Range for Inspire Courage?

Is there any limit to the range of the bardic music ability Inspire Courage, other than "within earshot"?

I don't think giving rules for that would be sensible. Terrain would make a huge difference, open/closed, half-closed doors... how much noise around...

It's up to the DM.

Talking is a DC 0 Listen check. +1 for every 10 feet.

And there would be situation modifiers (such as combat nearby) that need to be taken into consideration.

I would however never have the ability fail just because of mundane loud noise. A minimum range of ~10 feet should always exist.

I'd give it the magic number of 30'. You're in range for Bardic music, ranged sneak attack, gaze attack, point blank shot, etc...

We did a real world test one time in an empty warehouse... we came up with 60 feet as the range where intelligible communication breaks down without amplification, so that was what we have always used for a practical limit to inspire courage.
