Remnants of the Horde: In through the Back Way...

The tunnel wound on and on, deeper and down. Mephits flew ahead, and Salamanders kept to the front of the group. Finally, the Mephit who had first mentioned the Ash vents (Ziggit) flew back to Durgo, saying that the main tunnel was about to slant downwards at an angle that the Muragar would be unable to traverse. It would have to be one of the side passageways...

Squeezing along sideways, as these tunnels were made for far smaller creatures (Mephits and Goblins, most likely), the Gulguthans team ascend a spiral staircase into a chamber less hellishly hot than the tunnel (which had most of them feeling rather like they were being roasted alive).Only Durgo seemed unaffected, in his Gold Dragon Armor, as well as the Mephits and Salamanders.

The Chamber was about 60 feet in diameter, with three other large (10') doors. The openings were big enough for Ogres, at least. All three iron doors were closer, though their locking mechanisms seemed unengaged.

Bargo looks at each of the doors confused. Now out of the tight cramped spaces he pulls Elf Splitter out. The massive now-glowing blade, almost as big as one of the salamander, pulses with light thirsty for blood.

Durgo is not one to send others to do dirty work. In fact, he sort of prefers getting dirty. That's why he's the first to cross the room to the center door and throw it open.

"Dis way."

Durgo moved to the front, the Salamanders hastily moving out of his way, the Mephits hovering about his shoulders, peeking past the Gulguthan.

Durgo tears at the door, with futility, until Bargo (with a laugh) steps up and lends his aid.
<Durgo rolled a '1', Bargo and Durgo together open the door>

The door must have been stuck, warped from the heat of this part of the Castle, or something...

The troops all stay very quiet at this point, as they know that even a snicker at Durgo might bring fatal pain.

The tunnel beyond the door is perhaps 15 feet wide and very long. What is more noticeable than the tunnel, however, are the quartet of Minotaurs standing on the other side of the door, perhaps 20 feet in.

With a bellow 'RAWWRR!!!', they Charge, slamming into Durgo, one hitting him with a Greataxe < 24 HP damage>.

<Durgo caught flat-footed from the Minotaur's suprise round.Only two could get at him, though. The other two are waiting withn the chamber, holding>

Initiative

Salamanders 19
From positions behind Durgo, the flaming elementals attack, one scoring a hit <11 HP> on a Minotaur.

Forlash 16 <Doesn't havea view of the battle> he does know that a fight is happening, however.
Durgo 13
Mephits 12
Kurg 12 <Doesn't have a view of the battle>
Bargo 11
Muragar 8

"RAW--HUAAAAAGH!!!!" the minotaurs bellow, but Bargo has been waiting for this and roars right over top of them (Intimidate +18) with a grin and a look that shows he is more than willing to throw down and much more likely to be standing at the end of it.

Laughing, he spears a minotaur he can reach on the point of Elf Splitter then wrenches the meteoric blade free and steps back into the room where they will have to enter to reach him.

Had he been in a more coherant state of mind, Durgo might have wished to keep one of the minotaurs alive for questioning. The hoo-man would have thought of such a thing. But not Durgo.

Raising his Maul, the Gulgathan proceeds to annihilate the minotaur with the foolish gumption to not only attack him, but wound him! Durgo is not pleased...

OOC: Wild Fighting: +20/+20/+15 melee (+3 Huge Warhammer of Evil Outsider Bane; 2d6+23; 19-20 x3); AC stays at 29.

Durgo smashes the first Minotaur twice < 28 and 31 HP...dead>, smashing the beast's head into pulp, then whacking the second Monotaur, the one stabbed by the Salamander's spear, dropping it to the ground, Dead. as well.

The Mephit's stay clear, hooting and spitting flaming saliva at the Monotaurs, goading them on.

Kurg advances, reaching out and healing Durgo <CMW for 16HP>.

Bargo would need to close with the remaining Monotaurs to battle them. They looked suitably Intimidated, by watching their brethren fall and by the roaring of the massive Ogre.

Finding Durgo uninhibited by the close quarters, Bargo shrugs and steps up and swings away.

((OOC: If it requires more than a five foot step, Bargo will Power Attack for oh... -8/+16))

Devils...I know someday I may be in the abyss, just hope it aint this hot... He watches the 2 ogres smash the door open, then hearing the roar of rather large creatures, smiles when Bargo roars a challange right back at them. Suppose he don't need help with this....haven't yet had that much trouble with anything he can get his steel to.... Forlash searches through his robes for his wand of lightning....in case anything can get past the groups commander..

Forlash Holding...

Bargo Charges in, covering the intervening distance easily, bringing down Elfhewer in a sideways arc that carried completely through one Minotaur < 64 HP> and into the other, killing it as well.

Dead Minotaurs all around, Bargo looks sheepishly at Durgo.

One of the Mephits giggles 'That's 2 for Durgo and 2 for bargo! What fun! Bets, bets!?!' The Mephits fly off in a pitched frenzy of wagering and argument as to which Ogre would bring down more of the enemy...
