ooc: I realise that its Vespasians turn, but I thought I would get this up while I wait for him to measure his axe. Tsu'koka won't initiate combat with Vespazian, if attacked he will attempt to move away if possible or defend if necessary. The exception to this is if Vespazian attacks Sroka or the other hobgblins, in which case Tsu'koka will go after the hoomun with everything he has got.

"You have no ranks Vespasian," responds Tsu'koka in a quiet voice that carries easily across the plain regardless.

"Everything you had was given to you by Zurageth. You had nothing, you were just an empty vessel to hold Zurageth's command. But so pleased you were with yourself, strutting and preening. A conceited show-cockrel. You saw no value in earning any respect of your own. Now Zurageth is gone, and all your authority is but dust.

"Zurageth will grant his authority as he sees fit when he is restored. Perhaps to you. But you need not be the same empty shell of a man that you were.

"Abandon your conceits and vanities and join us. Place yourself where the fighting is thickest. Rally when the others lag. Respect those that you fight with and in return, become respected. Stand before Zurageth a man of authority."

Vespazian considered the bard's words in silence and without a word turned his back to the others and stalked back off toward the Gulgathan's previous position.

Tsu'koka had hoped that his words might avert the fight. He would not have wasted them otherwise. But had not believed that they would.

Vespazian's reaction stuns the Song Speaker. Blood, sensing his rider's confusion, shifts and steps nervously. Tsu'koka, brought back to the here and now, reaches down and pats the beast's neck. He watches the retreating back of the Captain, still unsure if he is seeing what he thinks that he is.

"Well," he says in a voice intended for only the wolfs ears, "that caught me by surprise. And it takes some to turn your back on one as ugly as you my friend.

"Just between you and I, can't help but feeling that the human could make a good battle-brother."

Tsu'koka gently heels the wolf and they pad over to where Sroka waits, and watches.

"Shall we move out?"

Durgo and the Boys

As the goblin Engineers prepare harnesses and the other troops sharpen blades and check their arrows, Wekerak rides up, along with two Hobgoblin Calvary.

OoC:Wekerak has 10 mins or so before the others arrive.

Wekerak

Riding along, musuing over the events that have plagued your band (not to mention it's most important member, you, your attention is drawn skywards, where you see a pair or large winged shapes...Dire Bats.
Whether being ridden or alone is unsure. What is sure is that they wheeled overhead at a distance of a hundred feet or so and then sped off North-East.

OoC:You can pop off a shot, if you like, or not. Perhaps not letting them know that you have noticed them is a better idead, or? As far as you know, Zuregath does not make extensive use of Dire Bat Calvary.

Vespazian

After several minutes of brooding, with rat chittering worridly in your ear, you round a large hill of slag to see a dozen orcs sharpening axes and swords.
Seeing you, they at first prepare for confrontation, until they see your Captain's Skulls. At that, they stand and give a salute, keeping their eyes on your skulls, rather than your face, as is custom.

Beyond the Orcs, you can see Ogres, Two Fire Giants and many more Orcs, goblins and gnolls (a Troll as well), all looking as if they are preparing for an assault on the Castle. Bargo lumbers by, grinning at you, and the voice of Durgo can be heard not too far off.

Tsu'Koka and the rear Guard

Moving along, Hobgoblins and Giant,Mephits and Gnolls, silence reigns in the group. Thingshad been said, and, indeed, put into motion. It would seem that any power struggle was, at least for now, quashed. Time would tell, however, as the Reurn of Zuregath would change everything in all of your lives.

You enter a makeshift staging area, where you see perhaps a hundred and fifty troops of various types, Ogres, Giants, Orcs and Hobgoblins. There are many Gargoyles, roosting on boulders (or were those the boulders themselves?), as well as a few odd types, a huge Manticore chained to a Rock, a troll wearing ad-hoc armor and carring a massive Hammer, a pack of Hell Hounds...

Before long, Durgo runs into his favorite gobbie and looks satisfied (in his own frowning, could-snap-at-any-moment way).

"You! Gobbie! You going wif Nilgo to walls. Open Gate from inside. You come wif hoo-man? Where uders?"

He looks, as always, as if he expects answers immidiately. Of course, Durgo has shown remarkable restraint in not eating this particular gobbie in all the time he's known the little creature. But only gobbie scouts who f*ck up go in the cookpots, and this one has done very well.

Registering inwardly, only the position of the troops about him, Vespazian stalks along, finding a space within the gathered troops, but set apart, so he can be alone (With Rat, of course.) with his thoughts.

Not giving any sign he has spotted the bats, the goblin rides on to Durgo's camp. When faced with the ogre's questions, he responds promptly.

"Song-speaker bring troops: Hobgoblins, Orcs, Fire Giant and Mephits. Maybe the human, too." Wekerak gives the gathered forces an approving stare, "Dire bats been scouting you. Could be enemies on way. We stay and fight, or go to gate now?"

As he speaks, the goblin looks to see what troops have been assigned to Nilgo.

Durgo nods.

"Dem's mephits go up to wall too," he says, turning then to the engineers, "You gobbie diggers, hurry wif dem harnesses! Bats come back soon! DURGO SAID FASTER! Nilgo, pick dem's who go wif you. Hag-dwarf, dis gobbie scout here, all gargs and mephits go to wall too. You know what to do."

~~Later, when Tsu'koka and the others arrive.~~

"Krong! You in charge here until hoo-man come back. Take dese troops until you's can see Gates. Den wait for dem to open. Gobbie diggers, you's get ready to dig if dem Gates no open.

"Song-Speaker. Fire Giants. Kurg. Bargo. You come wif Durgo to vents," he pauses to give one final look at the assembed warriors and nods. For once, Durgo grins, pleased with himself. Then he turns to where the Ash Vents will be opening soon and begins walking,

"We go."

Rat squeeked and chittered. Incessantly. It brought Vespazian out of his self-obsessed thoughts. WHAT!? He demended, his sudden outburst causing a nearby trooper to jump in it's armour. He listened silently as Rat's short description was offered. The large vermin told of a Gnoll that had tried to scoop him up as a snack and how it was happy it's nip had surprised the dog-man enough to let Rat scamper away. Rat also told of Durgo and his troop that had started to leave off towards the castle. This, interested Vespazian. Where? Where is the Huge leader? The loud Ogre? I would speak with it before they leave. Tell me quick! THe human lurched to his feet and gathered his axe, now fully aware of his surroundings and taking in everything about him to better search for Durgo.

Amidst the throng of chaotic troops, Nilgoand Sroka meet in the middle, conferring quickly with one another. It seems that they are cut from the same cloth in thought, as they quickly move among the troops and order them into manageable units.

Their suggestions (subject to their Superior's rule, of course)are as follows;

Squad One: 50 Hobgoblins led by Sroka himself. To fortify and secure areas inside, supported by the Fire Giants.

Squad Two:All of the Bugbears led by Nilgo to assail the Gate house once inside. The Mephits, as Nilgo is used to dealing with them.

Directly under Durgo
The Muragar, the Salamanders (they can climb well enough up the mountainside),Kurg

The 18 Gargoyles will carry troops up to the Ash vents as needed, then they will return to do the same below, carrying the Orcs and Gnolls into any available fights upon the Walls, as well as engaging any Dire bat calvary encountered.

Awaiting the opening of the Gates

[IVespazian[/I]

Krong,Duffo the Manticore,
34 Red Fist Orcs led by Sgt Frongar <the Lvl 4 Barbarian> to
the Troll, the Gnolls and the Hob Calvary to stay below and thwart any attempts by the enemy to interfere as best they can.
The Gnolls can handle the Hell Hounds as well.
8 Goblin Engineers
25 Goblins Level 1 Rogues(archers) led by Corporal Goka <the Lvl 2 Rogue>.

OoC:Are any of the PCs going to try and take the Gatehouse? Vespazian could take control instead of Krong (which is an obvious choice) and lead an assault on the Lower Gates.

I know that Durgo,Bargo and Forlash plan on entering through the Ash Vents.
Tsu'Koka? (although doghead is gone until the weekend), Wekerak?

The Muragar confers with his sargeants in muffled (for an ogre) tones. It seems Durgo is confident in his plan and does not wish to discuss the matter with so little time.

In the end, he agrees to take the salamanders and the mephits with him to the Ash Vents and leave the Fire Giants behind. To compensate, he will bring the hag-born-mojo-thing (though he feels it a poor compensation for some hard-hitting giants, but if the mephit was to be believed they wouldn't have fit in the Vents).

He will insist that the gargoyles and mephits join Squad 2 until they are clear of the Wall and making headway into the Gatehouse.

As the first gargoyles lift into the sky with their burdens, Durgo casts one final gaze upward, Stoopid dragon no hear Durgo...hmf... Ravarg wrong 'bout dem's ears.

When the hoo-man approaches, Durgo and his selected troops are leaving the main force and heading up the mountainside. The Muragar looks over his shoulder and nods to the little Man,

"Zuregath return soon! You be ready when Gates open!" The ogre points several times toward the Gates to accentuate his point then turns back over his shoulder and begins the ascent.

OOC: That leaves Vespazian, Wekerak and Tsu'koka on the ground with the main force waiting for the Gates to open.

Durgo, Bargo, Kurg, and Forlash are the PC's going to the vents along with the salamanders and the Fire mephits.

Squad 2 is being ferried up to the Wall by Gargoyles. Durgo wants the sargeant up first. I'm not sure how the gargoyles are getting the Fire Giants from Squad 1 up there, but 50 hobbies should otherwise make a decent force. Is that everything?
