You draw an oa when you "move away" from an opponent. Does that mean that if you only move in squares that are adjacent, you don't? Or that if you're adjacent and move at all, you do? And I'm talking truly moving, not shifting.

E.g.:

1 2 3
4 A 5
6 X 7
8 9 10

A = character, X = monster

If A moves to 2, that's moving away and draws an oa. What about moving to 4 through 10? Is that considered moving away?

On another topic, can A move to 6 using 1 movement point or does he first have to go to square 4?

If it's the same as 3.5, yup! Every character "threatens" all the squares adjacent to it. Any time you leave a square threatened by an enemy, you draw an OA.

Of course, if you're shifting you don't draw an OA, and (in 3.5) most enemies only get one OA per round. Hmm, maybe OAs cost minor actions in 4e? Nah, probably not.

If it's the same as 3.5, he can. You can move diagonally past enemies, just not through walls, and in 4e diagonal movement costs the same as horizontal or vertical.
