Retroactive HP adjustments

Probably being stupid here.....

but does an increase in CON at post-1st level result in a retroactive hp adjustment? I question it because the books IIRC says hp at first level = x + CON, with no indication that this can change at xth level with a CON increase?

It's on page 27 in the PHB, under "Hit Points". If you increase your Con by 1, you'll have to add 1 hp to your total.
