Rings of Animal Friendship Stacking Why?

Usually the same bonuses does not stack with exception of dodge. However, in Master of the Wild, pg 36/ 37, it states "one ring of animal friendship adds 12 HD to the character's limit, a second raises that to 24, and a hand of glory allows the use of a third ring for a total of 36 additional HD of animal companions." This is different from the norm. If I were to wear two rings of protection +5, I would still only gain the benefit of +5 deflection. Why does ring of friendship stack? Are there any other such exceptions?

Well, it does say that they don't exactly stack. Each lets you have up to 12 HD of companions. For example you could have a dire bear with 12 HD on one ring, and another with 2 rings, but you could not use the 24 HD you have from two rings to have a 24 HD dire tiger for example.

So it's not precisely stacking... Technicality maybe, but might help when someone suggests getting a +15 deflection bonus from 3 rings.

It's not stacking. It is a spell. One spell allows you to have XHD of animals campaiions per caster., However, the magical item is considered a sperate caster, you are allowed to have those in addition to the normal amount.
