What's wrong with our old table??

Standard UK dining room table, about 2'6" by 4'. Gives enough space for the larger Paizo battlemat and seats 6 ok. At the pub we put at least 2 together so 5' x 4'.

Yesterday I GM'd at a wargames table, 6'x4'. I'd say it felt too long, I don't really want players more than 5' away from me.

Typically, when we play at my place, I run/play games on my dining room table with the leaf in. So it's about 3'8" x 6'6" long. It's a tad long for my tastes, but it easily sits up to 8 people with lots of elbow room or 10 with a bit less room.

Seeing as my groups seldom get over five players and me, it's a bit big.
