Alter Self
If made permanent using a magic item, could it halt or resettle the aging process?
If it did, would the person be locked at that age or have to pay the repair cost of the magical item to reset their age every few decades?

If this works, it would mean every Level four Wizard or Artificer with the Craft Magical "?" Feat could live forever if careful, and produce them in mass for the public.

Polymorph Any Object
Same deal, but the spell doesn't appear to need a magical item for the effect to become permanent since you're not making any radical changes.
Easily a +13 on the duration chart.

Alter Self does not work that way... You cannot make yourself Immortal through the spell. Same with PaO as it follows the AS rules.

One secret to body immortality is the Reincarnate spell. As the wording of the spell, "The magic of the spell creates an entirely new young adult body for the soul to inhabit"

Trick is, you can't be reincarnated by dying of old age, so you need to die some other unnatural way.

Slap the Reincarnate spell with a Contingency spell or Craft Continent Spell feat, then die within the duration.

This process can continue until a Marut appears to tell you to quit your shenanigans.

Alter self would only give you the appearance of youth. Polymorph would give you the physical benefits of youth but only until the duration ended. A properly worded wish could make you stop aging, but if you do it wrong there is a world of possible horrible side effects...

Heck, the Necropolitan template can be applied at level, what, 2, 3? Spend 1,800gp for a Hat of Disguise and anyone short of an adventurer couldn't tell you weren't an ordinary person.

The problem with shape changing magic and aging is that while you may inhabit a young body, your "real age" keeps accumulating.

I don't recall where I read this, but somewhere in the rules it addressed this issue. Your body might be young, but when your total age reaches the "Die of old age" point, that's what happens.

We see this in the write up for the Monk and Druidic class ability Timeless Body. The body stops aging, but they still die when the clock runs out.

So the solution is to kill the person before old age takes them, then re-incarnate them, using a Limited Wish or something similar to ensure they return in a body of the desired race. They lose a level, but gain another lifetime to regain it.

I would think that Neutral forces who go up against Freaks Screwing with the Immutable Laws of the Universe believe in Force Appropriate Response .
