Shatter question

I've got a warlock player who wants to take Baleful Utterance, and after reading it, and the Shatter spell I have a question.

It mentions a will save, is this for magic items only? Say he wants to target an opponents non magical long sword, does the sword get a save.

Thanks for the help, I've accually never had a player use this spell before.

Shatter
Saving Throw: Will negates (object);
Will negates (object) or Fortitude half;
see text
From Page 177 of the PhB:
(object): The spell can be cast on objects, which receive saving
throws only if they are magical or if they are attended (held, worn,
grasped, or the like) by a creature resisting the spell, in which case
the object uses the creature’s saving throw bonus unless its own
bonus is greater. (This notation does not mean that a spell can be
cast only on objects. Some spells of this sort can be cast on creatures
or objects.) A magic item’s saving throw bonuses are each equal to 2
+ one-half the item’s caster level.

So if hes casting it at his enemies longsword, it uses the enemies will save. If the longsword were just sitting around, it gets no save. if the longsword is magical, it gets a save.

If the longsword is magical, it is unaffected. Otherwise, the nonmagical longsword in an opponent's possession gets a Will save (from the possessor) to resist the shatter.

What he said. Shatter explicitly affects only non-magical objects.

Receiving a saving throw means it CAN be affected. Thus, it CAN affect that enemy's magic longsword, as long as it fails its save.

No.

Shatter creates a loud, ringing noise that breaks brittle, nonmagical objects; sunders a single solid, nonmagical object; or damages a crystalline creature.

Shatter doesn't affect non-magical objects.
