Silly Character Names

How DMs can accept these names is beyond me.

While admittedly something like porn clitoris might get chucked just because it's mildly offensive, pretty much any other name will, if the DM can handle it, simply become just another name.

And if the player DOES name his character butthole, and SHOULD be getting an invitation to be rewarded by the king... pointedly send the invitation addressed to all the other characters. Have low-lifes hassle the crap out of him about his name. Make him feel small every time he says it.

Make his life hell. You know, just like if someone was really named butthole?

I daresay it'll be fairly soon that he goes for a nickname...

He played a serious character. Sure, when he first introduced the PC to the rest of the group they all fell down laughing, but after that, it was fine. After awhile, the word Porn itself doesn't sound so bad or that funny.

The player knew that he wouldn't be playing with the group for too long, and the last thing he wanted was a holier than thou, do as I say, kind of Paladin. It worked.

Oh, in one of my first campaigns years ago, two players in our group played twin deep gnomes named: Arnold & Mel Swartzengibson!

I do get some lip from Hong's other players about calling my character Carcosa. It's the name of the city Hastur lives by, but I just get called Carcasonne. Heh.

I'm usually the guy who has a regular, plausibly medieval name, even when I could get away with something exotic. For example, I played Franklin Castle in a Planescape group which included Magnus Krull, Jarlath Drakaar, Vainamoinen, Gai'a'min, Opsepn (to be fair, he was a modron), et cetera.

In a Wheel of Time d20 game I'm playing William, alongside Haran Idrik, Karan Faeed, Vanetia (though this PC is named after a friend of the player's), Tekarl, et cetera.

A precocious thief growing up in a society vastly different then his calls himself the longest word he can remember, though he doesn't know the meaning. Dysentery.

I was DM'ing a Dark Sun campaign. One of the players was playing a Mul Gladiator named:

Grizzly Rectumshaft

Needless to say, the game didn't last very long.
