She came back. Wearing the same silver cloak, she pulled out a small black book with silver pages from a pocket. Walking up to the large tree, she sat down on one of the larger roots and placed the book before her on the ground.
Pulling open the book, she flipped to the first page. She pulled a dagger out from its hidding place and sliced into her hand, creating a long but shallow cut in her palm. Holding her palm over the silver page, drops of blood began to fall upon the page. As each drop of blood fell onto the page, it turned black, like ink.
The slowly accumulated blood began to pull themselves across the page, settling and drying into words.
"I was the Queen
Of shadows
Now I am of the light
But I fear
There remains
A darkness in my heart
In these silver pages
Will be spoken the unsaid
Every spark of light
Every drop of darkness
Will find itself enclosed
Within these covers
My laughter will
Fall upon your ears
My tears will
Fall upon your cheeks
My kisses will
Fall upon your lips
My screams will
Fall upon your sanity
These pages
Contain all that
Is me
Read my heart
And forgive me.
-Dinah S."
The woman picked up the book and placed it in an abandoned niche within the tree where squirrels may have once dwelled, the black cover facing outwards. Only the silver rune shining in moonlight showed its presence.
She walked away.
