Silver Pages

She came back. Wearing the same silver cloak, she pulled out a small black book with silver pages from a pocket. Walking up to the large tree, she sat down on one of the larger roots and placed the book before her on the ground.
Pulling open the book, she flipped to the first page. She pulled a dagger out from its hidding place and sliced into her hand, creating a long but shallow cut in her palm. Holding her palm over the silver page, drops of blood began to fall upon the page. As each drop of blood fell onto the page, it turned black, like ink.
The slowly accumulated blood began to pull themselves across the page, settling and drying into words.

"I was the Queen
Of shadows
Now I am of the light
But I fear
There remains
A darkness in my heart

In these silver pages
Will be spoken the unsaid
Every spark of light
Every drop of darkness
Will find itself enclosed
Within these covers

My laughter will
Fall upon your ears
My tears will
Fall upon your cheeks
My kisses will
Fall upon your lips
My screams will
Fall upon your sanity

These pages
Contain all that
Is me
Read my heart
And forgive me.

-Dinah S.
"

The woman picked up the book and placed it in an abandoned niche within the tree where squirrels may have once dwelled, the black cover facing outwards. Only the silver rune shining in moonlight showed its presence.
She walked away.

"I am a husk
This shell before you
I was shadows
Darkness incarnation
But you have burned it all away
Nothing remained but my skin
Hollow without my darkness
But you filled me with your light
And I was living
A person again

But you have gone
For only a few days
But you have taken
Your light
With you and
I am nothing again
I can feel the darkness
Crawling onto me
Into me
Through these empty eyes
These ears that strain
To hear your voice
This mouth that opens and closes
Saying nothing
Waiting to laugh with you
Come back
Bring me the light again
"

In a violet, neatly shorn slice of parchment, are words inscribed.

Shine like stars,
In summer or winter.
Whatever carves their path,
Take as your own.
The wind whisks you up,
Settle again, light.

"Echoing
Through my mind
Are words
They speak of stars
Of seasons
Of light
I do not know where
They come from
But I take comfort

"Blessed hour!
He returns to me
I feel my hollow self
Live again
My heart beats
My blood runs
My lungs inhale
Light comes back
Into my blind world

The heartache
It flees at the sight
Of his light
The darkness
Burned away
You are my savior
The pain
Is gone
"

"Whenever we laugh
Whisper
Whenever we touch
Kiss
It feels
The light
It feels as if
I had a
Soul
Of my own.

"I joke
I kid
I pretend to dream
To fantasize
About that man
That prince with his
Adonis looks

You laugh
You grin
Feint outrage
You pretend
To begin to fantasize
About another
But you can't

You tell me
That your thoughts
Have been stolen away be me
You sweet man
How I know what
You mean

My very blood runs
For only you
My legs walk
Only to you
My breath escapes
Only to laugh with you
How I know what
You mean
You sweet man
"

"We lay here in the sands
Watching the sun ride
Across the endless skies
And fall into the sea
Creating beauty
Rivaled only by you

The moon shows her face
Pale in her modesty
Now that the rider has gone
Past our mortal eyes
She dances with her children
Above the dark waters
"

*A tall young man with short brown hair walks up to the tree... *sighs* The man places a short excerpt into the silver pages...*

Three words are not enough to tell you what you mean to me
Those three little words have had no meaning until I met you
I love you
No man has felt the true meaning until I met you
I love you

*The man walks slowly away from the tree and into the sunset*

"Sweet words
Slip into my thoughts
In the midst of
The banshee cries
That is my mind

I do not know how
You came across
My book
But, you angel,
Your words are sweet relief
I thank you.
