Sadly, what it has actually accomplished is encourage the for-profit companies to cut corners and make it harder for patients to see specialists. They figure if you're paying a set fee, the fewer services you get for that fee the more they get to keep.

Still, having relatives in Canada, I can assure you that the waiting lists and times aren't nearly as bad over here. Once you clear the red tape, you get the services you need pretty quickly, unlike in Canada where my grandfather waited five months to get his bypass surgery.

But back to Strahd's questions, health insurance is essential but altogether too expensive. $750/month for the family, through the university's plan, is probably about normal. You're coming at the right time to buy a car, however. There are some great deals out there.

Damn .. what is this health insurance system?! I almost got a heart attack when I saw how much I need to pay for health! 750$ a month for me, my spouse and my daughter.

In Europe and Israel you get full health care for less then 100$ per month.

I'm not used for such distances - my little country can be crossed from north to south in 7 hours.

Is that private or through the university? If private definitely check out the university system. Most universities should have a fairly decent health care system for students and dependents.

Next, congratulations and welcome to America. :)

I used to go to Colorado once a year on business trips but the annual conference I go to will be in Salt Lake City Utah next year (where Rhun is). Colorado has lots of beautiful mountainous terrain. You will see real winters with cold and snow.

Things to remember in America.

Dates are abbreviated in month, day, year order.

No metrics outside of a science room. Miles, feet, inches, pounds, gallons, cups. Cars will usually have kph marked as well as mph though.

I don't know whether you drive on the left or the right in Israel but here we drive on the right side of the road.

How old is your daughter? Public school starts at age 5, and goes Monday to Friday, from early fall to late spring.

If you're used to fairly consistent weather, Colorado is going to be really strange. When I visited my brother and sister in Denver last month, it was 60 F and sunny when I got in early in the afternoon. I went to my brother's place, had dinner, watched a movie, and then my sister, my brother-in-law, and I went outside to go back to her place... and their car was covered in snow.
